Last month Doug and I bought ourselves an early Christmas present ~ tickets to see Star Wars in Concert. It was really quite wonderful. We got there early and waited in a VERY large group of fans, anticipating the musical event. There were a lot of children accompanying their parents, many of whom were dressed in costume. It was very adorable. I wanted to get pictures of them, but didn’t want to freak out any parents, so I only got a picture of this one:
Eventually we were allowed in. The concert was taking place in the Izod Center ~ a stadium in the Meadowlands which is also where Giants Stadium is. When we entered we were in the outer ring around the stadium, where the concessions, souvenirs, restrooms and such are located. While walking around we saw one little girl I just had to have a picture of; isn’t she cute? She is on her Daddy’s shoulders, if you are trying to figure out why she is so tall.
All around the outer ring, there were amazing exhibits. Now I had seen some of the props and costumes from the original three movies years ago with my brother. However, this time there were props, costumes, sketches and more from all six movies. It was quite fascinating. I am going to take a moment now to apologize for these snaps. All the exhibits were encased in glass, and the stadium lighting seemed to always be in the exact wrong place to create maximum glare. This is the best we got ~ so prepare to squint.
Here are some of the costumes.
And some more of the costumes.
A few helmets, weapons, and even some of the original score.
Some really glare-y shots of some of the sketches.
There were even some people dressed in some copies of the costumes. Not the real pieces, only the costumes encased in glass were from the actual movies. OK, we got a random kid in one; he’s about to be knocked out by Darth Vader. It was very hard to get shots of any of the costumes or people without catching an audience member in the shot.
Once inside the concert was wonderful. The orchestra was on stage with very cool set pieces. There was a huge screen behind them. The whole concert was narrated by the actor who played C-3PO in all six movies. There were scenes playing on the screen throughout the concert, and many cool light, lazier and fire effects.
It was really something you just had to experience. Doug did get a few pictures, but most of the time we were just enjoying the show.
So there you have it, our early Christmas present for ourselves, Star Wars fans!
Hope you enjoyed my blurry telling of the evening.
May the force be with you.
