These cotton crocheted washcloths are become more and more popular. If you have ever used one you know why. They are so soft and so scrubby all at the same time. It really is a spa experience  They are a great way to pamper yourself or make some and give them to pamper someone you know could use a little TLC.

I tried a variety of stitches, and here is the one that I liked the most. It works up very quickly, and without taking up too much yarn.

Yarn:

100% cotton worsted weight yarn, (samples were made with Lily Sugar ‘n Cream)

Hook:

US H (5.0 mm)

Other Notions:

Yarn needle for weaving in ends

Stitches and Abbreviations used:

ch ~ chain
hdc ~ half double crochet
sc ~ single crochet
st(s) ~ stitch(es)

ch31

Row 1: working in bottom loops of ch, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, (sc, hdc) across to end, turn

Row 2: (do not ch) sc in first st, (hdc, sc) across to end, turn

Rep rows 2: until piece is square

clip yarn and weave in ends ~ or ~

optional: sc around entire washcloth, placing 27 sc along each edge not counting the corners, and 3sc in each corner, then clip yarn and weave in ends

  1. Hi Jessie,
Had to let you know that I LOVE this pattern. Thanks to your pattern, I’ve turned into a washcloth crocheting machine! Ha Ha. Before now, I would just crochet or knit scarves in the winter time, but now I find myself working on these cloths every chance I can get. I have found a couple favorite patterns online, but have to say that yours is tops. I am using the Sugar ‘n Cream yarn and love how washcloths turn out with this yarn. I don’t edge my cloths as I like them how they are when I am done – nice and square. So thanks again for the free pattern. 🙂

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this pattern!! I do have one question: Does row 2 end on a sc, or a hdc? Sorry, I’m very new at reading patterns in English. I’m from Germany 🙂 ~Ute~
