Made of super bulky yarn and granny inspired, this hat works up quite quickly. It is great for last minute holiday gifts, or winter birthdays. Weave in some extra yarn or ribbon for a decorative band, or just leave it as is.

Would you like to know about the scarves as well?

They are made from Premier Lash Max. They are knitted. I used size 15 needles (35mm).

Just cast on 7 and knit away!

I started with my scarf. I wrapped the blue yarn around one needle 10 times, then measured out 6 times that amount (ok, you can just wrap it around the needle 60 times) then cut that amount off for the end of the scarf. Next I took the rest of the yarn and cast on 7. I knit 4 rows, then switched to green and knit 4 rows. Next I switch to pink and knit 4 rows. Then back to the blue, and knit until the skein was gone. I then knit 4 rows of green, then 4 rows of pink, and then I tied on the blue yarn I had set aside at the beginning and knit 4 more rows. Then just bind off and weave in ends!

For the girls’ scarves, I cast on 7, knit until there was about a yard of yarn left, then I bound off and wove in the ends.

I knit the scarves because knitting takes less yarn and I only had one skein of each color. You can crochet scarves with this yarn, but you may need 2 skeins for each scarf, or you will just have short scarves.

Now the girls and I have matching hats and scarves, and I will be able to find them in a crowd of kiddies with no problem this winter!

    • I’m not sure what the problem is. When I click the link for the printable pattern at the bottom of the post, it takes me to the Craftsy listing with the printer~friendly PDF. I just checked the PDF and it is in black. Are you using that to print, or are you trying to print it straight off the blog?

  2. I’ve been searching for a cute “Bulky yarn” hat pattern… Every one I find just didn’t call to me lol… When I saw a link to your design on another bloggers Facebook, it called lol… I purchased about 15 skeins of Super Bulky Yarn last April around Easter time & was going to make some cute Easter baskets for my daughters, nieces & nephews… well needless to say that didn’t get done & I had all this bulky yarn… So I went hat pattern shopping with no luck! Then I saw your design & it is AWESOME!!! One of my absolute FAVS!!! Thank you for sharing & even more for sharing for free! You ROCK!!!!

  4. I copied your directions exactly . I had made an adult hat with 3 Vivid yarns: Black Electric Blue and a Green. So first I made a child’s hat and then an adult’s hat and they both are darling. Thanks.
    Happy Thanksgiving.

  5. Hi Jessie,

My name is Amanda, I’ve got a favor I’d like to ask you… I’m working on a website that will have some beanie pattern examples for an upcoming March for Science in Washington DC, similar to the Women’s March that happened last week. I would love to use your all-size beanie pattern, if you are OK with that. I totally understand that not everyone wants to be associated with marches, or politics in general, and I would hate to use your work if you aren’t comfortable.

The website is still in a very basic form, but i’m working hard to get it useful quickly
you can see what I’ve got at http://www.greenhatsforscience.wordpress.com

    Thank you for your time!

    • Yay!! I do love this pattern, it’s so fast and awesome with giant yarn. We still use these hats for the snowmen we make in the winter.
