Just minutes ago, I was uploading and tagging photos to share with you. Some of my yarnie works in progress, and a few other goodies. I popped over to Facebook for a moment to check a message, and saw a status update that changed my plans. The crafty post will go up tomorrow.

When I was pregnant with the twins, over 6 years ago, I joined a brand new site for moms, CafeMom. It was my first social media site where I really spent time. I got so much support and advice from the other moms there. I made some friends as well.

Social media has grown so much since then. Now I spend most of my social media time on Facebook. I keep in touch with my huge and geographically diverse family through Facebook. I also have many friends, both those I know in the real world, and those I only know through my computer screen. Several of those friends are from CafeMom. Six years ago I met an amazing mother there, named Barbara. Her mother, Rita, was also on the site. The two of them were great. They were fun, helpful, awesome. I am still friends with them, mostly through Facebook. Barbara is also a crocheter, so she has joined in some of the crochet groups I am in on Facebook. She and Rita both have been Girl Scout leaders and give me words of advice and encouragement in my leader journey. They are my friends. I love them. I love them.

Two years ago Rita had surgery for cancer. She has been fine for quite some time. Until recently. Just a few weeks ago she moved in with Barbara and her family. Today Barbara’s status was an update on her mother. She is not doing well. I am heartbroken. I love Rita. I love her daughter, I have been with them as their family has grown. Barbara and her husband are going to have their 5th child soon. I want that child to know his grandmother. She is so amazing. No words can ever do her justice.

I don’t want to loose Rita. I don’t want her family to loose Rita.

I’m not sure what the point of this post is, other then to put my feelings out into the world that brought Rita and I together. And maybe to remind you that love comes in all forms. Friends come in all forms. Value them. Let them know what they mean to you. Never think that just because you only know someone through the cyber world, they are not real friends.

Rita, I love you.
