Red Heart Super Saver, one skein each of Cherry Red and Negro, 36″ around

With so many ways to wear the Ali Mobius Cowl, it will become a staple in your winter wardrobe in no time! This cowl is so easy, quick, and fun. If you can chain and double crochet, you can make Ali! Ali is simply a double crochet twisted tube made with 2 strands of worsted weight yarn held together. You can also find a pattern for this cowl made with 2 strands of chunky yarn, here. Make a matched set with the Eli hat or make a coordinating scarf for a friend with the Leo scarf.

Berroco Vintage Chunky, 2 skeins, 44″ around

Sizes:
Sizes are listed as the finished circumference. To decide which size you want, loop a measuring tape to the circumference size and see which one is the length you like. To make the cowl even longer, just add 8 more chs to the starting chain for every 4 inches.
Finished circumference 28 (32, 36, 40, 44, 48) inches.

Yarn:
Worsted weight yarn in two solid colors, or one solid and one variegated. Amounts will vary depending on the measurements you choose. You can use the yarn info on each photo to estimate what you may need. This pattern works best with a thicker worsted weight yarn, such as Red Heart Super Saver or Red Heart with Love, or even a thin bulky weight such as Berroco Vintage Chunky.

Supplies:
US 13/N/9.00 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle

Gauge:
Holding 2 strands of yarn together and working them as one: 8 stitches and 5 rows in dc make a 4” square.

Stitches and Skills used:
Ch ~ chain
dc ~ double crochet
sl st ~ slip stitch
St(s) ~ stitch(es)
Beg ~ beginning
Rep ~ repeat

Notes:
To make the cowl to any length you want, make the starting chain until your desired length, then add 2 more chains and continue with round 1. Once you have completed round 1, wrap it how you desire (such as around your shoulders, or over your head and around your neck) this will show you if you need to adjust the length of the first round by going back to the chains and adding or subtracting chains to lengthen or shorten the cowl.

Getting Started:
Hold 2 strands of yarn together and work as one for entire pattern.

Cowl:

Rnd 1: Ch 58 (66, 74, 82, 90, 98), loosely (if the chain is not loose, it will pull the cowl tighter in the middle) dc in 4th ch from hook (the last 3 ch count as the first dc), dc in each remaining st across, * fold the strip into a loop, placing ends next to each other and being careful not to twist.

Flip the end without the hook down (see picture), dc in the bottom of the ch 3, dc in the bottom of each remaining st around, sl st to the top of the beg ch 3. At the end of this rnd the piece will appear to be 2 rnds tall. (112 (128, 144, 160, 176, 192) dc).

Ali-Mobius-Cowl-Free-Crochet-Pattern-Finishing-Round-1

*option, rather than making a chain and then working dc into the chains, you can make a row of 56 (64, 72, 80, 88, 96foundation dc and then continue at the * in rnd 1.

Rnd 2: Do NOT turn, ch 3 (counts as first dc) dc in each remaining st around, sl st to the top of the beg ch 3, due to the twist, this round will wrap all the way around the top and bottom of the cowl. (112 (128, 144, 160, 176, 192) dc). At this point the cowl will appear to be 4 rows tall.

Rep rnd 2: until cowl is desired width. Use the yarn end at the beginning of the cowl to close the small hole in the middle from where the first round was joined. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Optional: Try adding a button  to create even more looks. Just use the space between any two stitches as the button holes!
