When you learn to crochet, the first thing you learn is how to make a chain. Miles and miles of chain. What can you do with a chain? Well, as it turns out, a lot! Here is a collection of patterns made mostly of chain stitches. As a matter of fact, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 9 are made entirely with chain stitches, making them great projects for a beginner who wants to complete a project after learning the chain stitch. Of course, these are all great patterns for any level crocheter. Sometimes simple is just plain beautiful!

If you do not yet know how to crochet, well, here is a tutorial on how to make the chain stitch! It includes written instructions, lots of photos, and even a video.

Here are the names and links of each pattern, along with a little something that each designer has to say about them.

1) Loopy Love Blanket: Free Crochet Pattern in 7 Sizes! by Moogly
The Loopy Love Blanket is so fun to make! The pattern is easy to memorize, the stitches just fly by, and the end result looks way more complicated than it should. And in 3 colors, you can change colors every row and never have to cut the yarn!

2) Drop Chain Shawl ~ Free Crochet Pattern by I’m Hooked
This is an airy type of shawl with flower tassels; a simple and yet classy-looking design. This easy project is perfect for beginners. You can make this shawl in any length or width that you desire. You can also use any type or weight of yarn and any sized crochet hooks. The shawl is made in one piece with no cutting involved. However, the tassels are made separately but they are all in one piece too.

3) Beach Glass Crochet Necklace ~ Free Crochet Pattern by Fiber Flux
This necklace celebrates the joy of being by the sea. I gathered different shell, glass, and stone beads and incorporated them on a simple crochet chain. If you have never added beads to your crochet projects, this is a great place to start. Likewise, if you can crochet a chain, you can make this easy and pretty necklace.

4) Spinning Summer Slouchy Beanie ~ Free Crochet Pattern by Moogly
The Spinning Summer Slouchy Beanie will help you wind down the summer in style. The design came to me at the same time as the Tallulah Waterfall Scarf. One stitch theory, two very different results! This beanie is light and airy; perfect for summer, or any time of year. It’s all about the fashion – and these spinning stitches are ready for the runway!

5) Pewter Statement Crochet Bracelet ~ Free Crochet Pattern by Fiber Flux
I got so excited making my Beach Glass Crochet Necklace that I decided to make a fun bracelet too. This pretty bracelet is made using beads I recycled from a piece of jewelry I no longer wore, so I turned it into something new! Multiple strands are crocheted using simple chains and tied together onto a toggle clasp. If you have never added beads to your crochet projects, this is a great place to start. Likewise, if you can crochet a chain, you can make this easy and pretty bracelet.

6) Simple Chain Stitch Necklace ~ Free Crochet Pattern by Jessie At Home
If you can make a crochet chain, you can make this necklace! It is super simple, and tons of fun. This necklace is a great way for those just learning to make a finished item, it is a wonderful project for kids (what a great Mother’s Day gift!) and it is even fun for the more advanced. It also makes for great craft fair stock!

7) Chainy Chain Necklace (Pattern + Project) ~ Free Crochet Pattern by Fiber Flux
Good morning lovelies! Just had to share this project I recently finished. This cute necklace is all about chains, but combines two different materials for lots of texture and a unique look. Made using three metal strands and three crochet chain strands, it makes for an interesting combination. To echo the shine of the silver, I used shiny, satiny embroidery floss and a small hook. The result was a super quick instant gratification project.

8) Lazy Daisy Chain ~ Free Crochet Pattern by Posh Pooch Designs
Here is a fun pattern for a crochet daisy chain that can be used in so many ways!

9) Chain Wrap Bracelet ~ Free Crochet Pattern by Jessie At Home
This simple bracelet is great for beginners all the way to experts. All you need to know is how to make a crochet chain, and how to sew on a button. There is a video that shows how to make this bracelet from beginning to end. Even a new crocheter can show off a pretty finished project with this chain wrap bracelet!

10) Artfully Simple Infinity Scarf ~ Free Crochet Pattern by Moogly
The Artfully Simple Infinity Scarf is a great one skein project that really shows off interesting and luxurious yarns. Perfect for thick and thin yarns, as well as yarns with long color changes, it can be made with any size hook and yarn – just start by chaining until you’ve got your desired length in a multiple of 7 sts and go from there. Using this pattern, every cowl will be unique. In the right yarn it’s a wearable work of art!

11) Tween Throw ~ Free Crochet Pattern by Kim Guzman
This afghan features a deceptively easy stitch pattern, suitable for the beginner. It’s easily and quickly memorized and produces a look that no one will ever guess was achieved with such easy stitches. It also features my all-time favorite color of Simply Soft: rubine red. Absolutely gorgeous color.

Don’t forget to check out some of the other great Round Ups that have happened in Blogland over the last week!
