Hello my blogland friends! How was your weekend? We had a lot of fun over here. I’ve been working a lot, but this weekend I did find some time to play with the kiddos. Here is a little about what we did and some photos of the fun!

Bedtime-Stories-by-Mo-WillemsPin

Some nights the girls like to read bedtime stories to each other. Kyla is a big fan of the Mo Willems books. Here she is with a big stack of them, reading to Vada.

What-to-makePin

At the end of the week I received this lovely little package from Lion Brand. It’s a new yarn they have released. I am still thinking about what to make with it. It reminds me of a thinner and slightly tighter version of Homespun. The colors are great.

So far, I am leaning towards making a dress top with it, sort of like a short top with wide straps, and then sewing a fabric skirt to the bottom to make a high waisted dress. Whatever I do, I will certainly share with you!

Maybe-notPin

I still had one March Hare (Worsted Weight) Mini~Skein pack from Frabjous Fibers that needed to become something. On Friday, I started a fun wrap with it, and managed to finish it at about midnight…At which point I unwound it onto my swift because it was just too small. I needed a pattern with more open stitches, or else I needed more yarn. I really wanted something that only took one mini~skein pack, so back to the drawing board. I left the yarn on the swift overnight so that the kinks from use would come out. As I was trying to find sleep on Friday night, I came up with a great idea. So, in the morning, I re~wound it into one large ball and got started.

Just as I started, we decided it was time to get going for our little Saturday excursion. We were going to stop off a the library for a bit, then head on over to the large town parking lot where they were having the annual Big Truck Day. So I grabbed a bag, tossed in my yarn and needles, and we hopped into Doug’s car.

We hadn’t been at the library very long when Doug received a text that a friend of his had an extra ticket to the Rangers playoff game at 1; it was already 11:30. I told Doug to go, and the girls and I would just walk. Of course, about a minute after he left I made him come back to give me the house keys and the library card. Ooops. Don’t worry, he made it to the game just fine. He took the bus in, as it is way cheaper than parking and toll and only about a 20 minute trip.

The girls found some great books and even got to play with the IPads for a little while, and I got some knitting done. Then we were off to the Big Truck Day, which was on the way home anyway.

The girls had a blast climbing on all the parks and rec vehicles.

They loved pretending they were really driving and digging.

Of course they also loved climbing in everything. And honking horns. They climbed in the street cleaner (not pictured) and honked like mad. Next year I am bringing earplugs.

Saturday-LunchPin

After they were done playing with the trucks, I let them pick one of the places adjacent to the parking lot to eat. They chose a mediterranean spot. Everyone there was super nice, and the food was great. We had baba ganoush first, Kyla and I both had really good lemonade, and Vada had iced tea. The girls ordered from the kids menu, mainly because it was cheaper and finances are a little tight right now, and I had a lamb burger, which is pretty much the only way I like lamb. Everything was very fresh and cooked just right. The girls loved the garnishes on everything. The prices were great for the high quality of food. After Doug got home I told him we would have to go back again as a family sometime.

The-caterpiller-and-the-butterflyPin

After lunch we walked back home. Vada thought it was time for a puppet show. That is her out on the front porch (AKA the playroom) at the front window. The puppet show was a love story about a butterfly and a caterpillar. Sorry for the bad pictures, but the glare behind her was pretty bad, and the window could use a wash.

Saturday-afternoonPin

Kyla wasn’t feeling great when we got home. She hadn’t been drinking enough water, so I think she was just a bit fatigued from that. I had her lay down and drink lots of water while I knit some more. I am very happy with the new pattern. It is a knit pattern inspired by the crochet Askew Wrap.

Talk to you again soon!
