Delia Slouch Hat

The Delia Slouch Hat is the sister hat to the Delia (beanie) hat. They both feature a Jacob’s Ladder detail running up the hat, which creates a little starburst pattern at the top. The slouch version also includes a tie string around the brim, so you can make it fit no matter how you wear it, it can even be worn as a snood! With sizes from child small to adult large, you can switch up the colors and sizes with both the Delia hats and make a set for the whole family, or maybe the whole band. 😉

  1. I like this pattern, but I think you have an extra ch 7 at the end of the rows because then that would put 2 – ch 7s right together.

    • The rounds do not end with a ch-7, so they are not next to eachother. There is a stitch count/description at the end of every round, it should help you figure out where you may have made a mistake.

  2. OK my problem is I need to use a thinner yarn than the one you do in the pattern given. So I need to figure out the stitches. I have guessed roughly that I need a ch 105 to start giving me 18 then 17 etc.
Never done Jabobs ladder before so I am still a little confused as I thought I ahd to skip a whole lot of stitches and have chains that would eventually be pulled up but this does not seem to be the case in the pirst loop row where the loop is made bcak into the base of the beginning of the chain loop. OK done that but then what happens in the next row I dont understand the chain 10 dc 5 as that seems to give me a peculiar longer loop over the loop in the row below. Hmm. Must be doing something wrong. Could you add a little explanation to clarify or just show two pics of the first two loop bits of the first two loop rows before they are drawn through as that would help me figure out the pattern and in general to enlarge it.
I am actually trying to use the pattern to make a Rasta slouchy I was commissioned to make and the only yarn I can find in the right colours in about 4 ply hence I need to increase the total number of stitches etc. etc. No I live in a remote village in Asia so shopping ain’t easy for me.
    Thanks for the help.

    • Just follow the pattern, do the chains and skips as written, and if you are confused with the Jacob’s ladder stitch, watch the tutorial.
