February Break

I’ve never understood why some school !have February breaks. It’s too cold to go out, and it means that spring break has to be moved later so it doesn’t coincide with Easter. Plus it makes the school year end even later. Oh well, we have it, so we will make the best of it! The girls had quite a crazy day on Thursday. They came home with so much candy, and we still had left overs from Christmas!

Then in the evening we had a Daisy meeting. The girls got their tunics, and at the next meeting we will have the investiture ceremony, when they officially become Girl Scouts. Pretty cool. On Thursday they earned their first “fun patch.” It was a Valentine’s patch. We made fun heart garlands that we will also use to decorate for the ceremony. We also worked on the first petal patch for “Vi” the violet. She represents helping a (fellow Girl Scout) sister out. The girls all made drawing representing what they want to be when they grow up to help out a young lady who is working on earning her Gold Award. The GS Gold Award is equivalent to the Boy Scout Eagle Award. It was a very busy and fun meeting!

On another note, we had our first appliance death of home ownership. The washing machine had stopped spinning, so I called in PSE&G. PSE&G is the electric & gas company around here. They have a “worry free house” plan where home owners can sign up for service plans for their appliances. I signed up our washer, dryer, oven/stove, fridge, boiler and water heater. I didn’t add in the dishwasher, as it has an even better plan through Sears.

So the repairman showed up on Wednesday. The plan really covers nearly everything, but it turns out it does not cover washing machine transmissions. Did you know washing machines have transmissions? I didn’t. Well ours is kaput. The machine has been deemed dead. Thankfully my SIL has an extra machine at her old house, and she will be able to pick it up at the end of the month. So just  few more weeks of laundry matting, and then we will have a working washing machine again.

Star-FruitPin

Here’s a non sequitur for you (I’m good at those!) It was too pretty, so I had to toss it in. The grocery store had some yummy~looking star fruit, so I bought a couple. It’s almost as fun to look at as it is too eat. Almost.

Anyway, I have been hooking away over here. And knitting away as well. I’ve made quite a few of the Dotted Headbands for craft fairs. I’m working on a pattern for one made out of squares as well.

Lots of coffee has been happening over here. The girls say that coffee smells like mommy. Whatever it takes to keep me going. I need to get more income going, so I need to get more patterns and craft fair items made.

Still-rewriting-the-adult-Kat-coat-patternPin

Speaking of patterns, the adult Kat coat is making me dizzy. To be honest, I am writing this post a way of taking a break from yet~another re~write. The underarm increases are giving me a hard time. It’s much easier to write patterns with a smaller size range. This pattern ranges from XS to 5X, so getting it all to work nicely is a little crazy~making. I think this rewrite is going to be the one!

The girls are both recovering from a cold/virus. It seems like they are always recovering from a cold/virus. I did bring them into the pediatrician last week, just to be safe. She told me what I was already rather sure was the case, they just are picking up a lot of germs because this is their first year of school. I had hoped all the playground time and library story times would expose them to enough germs that this wouldn’t happen, but I guess not. Vada cuddled up with Daddy to feel better.

Kyla had another method. “Mommy, I gonna hug T~Rex until I feel happy.”

Well, I should get back to the needles and math. Have a great week!
