Flight Hat – Free Crochet Pattern

After designing the Skylark Cloche Hat to match the Skylark Scarf, I had a thought about another hat, one with a spiral top instead of rounds, and worked in the back loops only to show off the spirals. This hat came from that thought. Flight got its name because it reminds me of the early woman in aviation. I’m not really sure why, it just does, and it makes me happy. I hope it brings you happiness as well.

  1. I love all the patterns. I just wish I knew how to crochet. I use a round loom, have several different sizes of them. I love making cowls on them! They r so WARM!!!

  2. You say main color and contrasting – but the picture seems to show many colors? I would like to obtain the same general look. Did you use multi/print yarns?

    • Red Heart Unforgettable is a variegated yarn. I only used 2 colorways. If you read the top of the post you will see I used the leftovers from another scarf and hat.

  3. I have one skein of a variegated worsted yarn I’d like to use for this hat…it’s 210 yards, 100 grams. Do you think it will work and be enough yarn? I’m still pretty new to this yarn substituting thing.
P.S.: Your patterns are so, so lovely; thank you for sharing so many for free.

    • That should be plenty, you may even be able to make 2!! Just be sure you get the correct gauge. If you run into any problems, join the Facebook group posted at the bottom of my patterns and post a photo and ask a question there. We are usually pretty quick to help over there. 🙂

        • I’m not a facebook user, so I am going to ask another question here. I just finished rows 3 and 4 of the hat band, and in following the pattern instructions and triple checking them, I ended up with 93 sts for row 3 and 96 for row 4.
Is this a possible error in the pattern? The band is starting to flare out just slightly, but it doesn’t appear that way in the photo. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
