Stitches and Skills used:
ch ~ chain
sc – single crochet
sl st ~ slip stitch
sp(s) ~ space(s)
st(s) ~ stitch(es)

Getting Started:
Find a video tutorial of the Nettie’s Super Simple Stitch in rows here.
Find a written, photo, and video tutorial for the chain stitch here, for the slip stitch here, and for the single crochet here.
This pattern is written off of your measurements. To get started you will need to take your waist and hip (at widest point) measurements.
For the sample, the Nettie’s Super Shortcut was used, the first sl st of row 2 is worked into the ch, and the rest of the sl sts in row 2 are worked around (not in) the chains, making the crocheting go much faster.

Pattern:
To determine your tie string length, multiply your waist measurement by 2, then add 36.
For example, if the waist is 30, then: 30×2=60; 60+36=96. So the tie string will need to be 96″ long.

Tie String: Ch until the chain is the tie string length, cut yarn but do not fasten off, instead, place a safety pin at the end of the chain to keep it from unraveling. Starting back at the beginning of the chain, sc in each chain, periodically stretching the tie string really well, then releasing and measuring. Once the tie string measures the tie string length after being stretched and released, cut the yarn and fasten off. Remove the safety pin and pull out the extra chains.
OR
Make a string of foundation single crochet, stretching and releasing as above. Make the foundation sc string until it measures the tie string length after being stretched and released, cut the yarn and fasten off.

Skirt:
Stretch the tie string again. Release and fold tie string in half and mark center with a stitch marker or safety pin. Multiply the waist measurement by .75, measure that amount from each side of the center marker and place markers at those measurements. Remove the center marker. Wrap the tie string around your waist twice and tie, the pins should fall on your sides so the section between the pins wraps 1.5 times around your waist.
Row 1: With a new piece of yarn, sl st to one of the marked st, ch 7, skip 1, sl st in next st, *ch 7, skip 2, sl st in next st, repeat from * to other marker, the last sl st may end up a few sts past the marker, and that is fine.
Row 2: Ch 7, skip 3, sl st in next st, *ch 7, skip 7, sl st in next st, repeat from * until only 3 chs from the previous row remain.
Repeat row 2 to desired length.

Optional Bead Row: Ch 3, pull loop to height of 3 beads plus a little more, remove hook, slip 3 beads onto the smaller hook and grab loop with smaller hook, pull loop through the beads and chain 1 to close around beads, ch 3, skip 3, sl st in next st, *ch 3, pull loop to height of 3 beads plus a little more, remove hook, slip 3 beads onto the smaller hook and grab loop with smaller hook, pull loop through the beads and chain 1 to close around beads, ch 3, skip 7, sl st in next st, repeat from * until only 3 chs from the previous row remain.
