New Home To Be

Well, it looks as thought this is really happening. We have gotten through all the parts that could make buying this house not happen, and are pretty much at the point of just waiting for the closing date. Closing will be sometime in the first half of June (one of the last things we need to nail down.)
So here are a few snaps of the Cape house that will soon become our home.

The house was built in 1900, Cape style, so the flew is smack in the middle of the house. Slighty annoying there, but oh well. The garage/stable was build in 1920, and the addition to the back (basement and first floor) was built in 1958. The front porch was enclosed and heat added 20ish years ago. There will be many changes over the next 10~15 years, but the basics are there, and it is in great shape. I won’t mind having company over with the house as it is right now. Big relief there.

That structure in the back? It’s our garage (not the part that sticks up, that’s the house behind this one.) I love the stable doors. However, I have a feeling there will be much restoration involved with this structure. It will be a labor of love. Once the sellers are out and we can get in, I will post some pictures of the uber~cool built~in work table with antique vice in the garage. Love at first site.

Another shot up the driveway (garage sale this weekend, I kinda wanted to go but thought it might be bad form, besides we have great out of town plans this weekend.)

And another shot of the right side of the house. The “back” door is actually off the side of the kitchen ~ which is part of the ’58 addition. We will either make a new deck that wraps the back of the house, or move the back door to the back and still make a back deck. There is a very nice size (for this area) back yard. Enough for a good size deck, a play~set, and still room to run around.

Left side of the house. Once we are in I am going to have to hire a landscaper to come in and tell me what all the plants are and how to care for them. The sellers have some really nice things going on outside and I may as well go with it, at least for now. I’m pretty sure there are some rose bushes up this side.

Closer view of the left side of the house. That side door goes down to the basement.

Well, there you have it. I’ll  post interior shots once it is ours.

Have a nice weekend!

  1. If that chimney up the center of the house is attached to a fireplace (or even if it just moves the exhaust gas from a furnace), you might appreciate it as a fine radiator of heat. Now a days, chimneys on the outside of the house provide the silly feature of heating the outside much more than they heat the inside.

I’m happy to hear it all worked out!

  2. John, if it was attached to a fireplace, I would be dancing with joy, but, alas, no fireplace for me. You have a good point about the heat, though. My slight annoyance with it is that it breaks up the basement, and all the utilities (water heater, furnace and such) are smushed around it so it manages to take up a huge amount of space.
