On my needles, on my hook, and on my mind…

I know, I need to finish the Katherine coat for the Knit and Crochet show. I just can’t work on only one thing. Plus, then there would be no free patterns here until mid to late October. Not to mention, sometimes I just need to step away from Katherine for a while. We have a very complex relationship, that coat and I.

It seems there was something in the air this spring, I have quite a few pregnant friends. They have inspired me to make a some baby blankets from patterns I have found on the internet, from new patterns of my own, or a mix of the two.

So…

Katherine…

I’m not going to tell you how many times  I have edited the body of this pattern; or the collar. At this point, most of the shape/fit issues are done, so things *should* go much smoother from here on out. Here is the top with one sleeve half way done.

Unlike the kid version (the Kat coat) Katherine does not zip up, she buttons. For mine I used a mix of buttons from my little collection. Doug doesn’t like it. He says it would be fine if they were all different silver buttons, or all different gold buttons, but the complete randomness of it is just too much for him. I like it, but when the coat is all done if I change my mind, buttons are easy to change.

About a year ago I clipped this bit from a magazine. I think it was from a painting or maybe a piece of digital art. Anyway, it called to me. It wanted to be a blanket in a new stitch. Something like a chevron/wave/ripple, but not in one of the traditional stitches.

I have used the onslaught of babies to come to motivate me to write the pattern. I have tossed it at my testers so I can have photos in various colors and several different weight yarns.

Would you like a peak at it?

I don’t really want to show too much until it is released.

I am aiming to release it just after the Knit and Crochet show, so mid October.

All right,  I will give you a little peak.

I like it!

So that is a bit about what is on my needles and my hook; as for my mind…

For the last few weeks I have been feeling the weight of tomorrow approaching. I’m not sure I will ever be able to face that anniversary without a heavy heart. Some years are easier then others. For some reason, I have been feeling it a lot this year. I don’t really feel like writing a lot about it right now. So I will just share with you what I wrote two years ago. Here is what I wrote as the tenth anniversary was approaching.

That’s all for now. Our first Daisy meeting of the year is on Thursday, so it may be Friday before I write again, but you never know!
