It’s been a bit of an odd day in my little world. I haven’t gotten to the 2 tutorials I wanted to post for all of you. I am going to do my best to do them tomorrow. I hope you all are having a lovely Thursday!
Here’s a cute snap of Kyla building to hold you over until tomorrow.

Craft-Hope-Quilt-Close-Up

I thought you might like to see my progress on my Craft Hope quilt. As you can see, I got a little crazy and decided to hand quilt it. It is not as far along as the picture would lead you to believe, I just folded it so the done part was on top. It may be the end of next week, not this week, when it goes out. The due date is Nov. 14th, so I will still be plenty early. Here’s a few more snaps. (more…)

On Friday evening, my mother-in-law came to take the girls for the weekend. Doug and I had plans to reorganize their room so it would be toddler safe, and to change the cribs to toddler beds. Also, there is a closet in their room that runs the length of one wall, about 12 feet, and has sliding doors. It has a shelf running across the top of the closet that can stack paper boxes 2 high. I wanted to reorganize that closet. Some things needed to come out of the closet and move into my bedroom, and visa versa.

Doug did have to work a bit on Saturday, so I chose to sleep in a bit, before all the craziness began. So there I was, lounging lazily in bed at about 9:20 on Saturday morning. I had been awake for a while, but was unable to bring myself to leave the comfort of the warm blankets. (more…)

Crochet-Bats

Aren’t they just the cutest little batties you have ever seen? I made them for the girls. They hold the bats by the wings, pull and giggle. Good thing I sewed the wings on tight! (more…)

Last week I ran across the Craft Hope. Jade is an amazing lady who finds various groups who need crafts made for good causes. You can read all about the current project, but the short version is: making quilts for homeless kids.

Craft-Hope

Remember how I told you I had bought some fabric on the way to Beth’s? I picked up a pack of 20 strips (2 1/2 x 42 inches) a pack of squares (5 inches square) and a few quarter yard (18 x 42 inches) pieces. I started at Beth’s, between teaching her and eating pizza. This is what I had when I got home. (more…)

Gift-For-Beth

Back in March I went to my friend Beth’s wedding shower and presented her with the presents seen above. They were both from her registry, a large self-watering planter, and a book “Sewing for Dummies”. Inside the book was a note saying she would also receive a day of sewing lessons from me. This is a decent gift, as I used to run a university costume department and teach sewing and pattern making.

It took a while to come up with a time we were both able to spend the day together. (more…)

Flower to Hexagon Granny free crochet pattern by Jessie At Home

In my search for a Granny Hexagon to make blankets for my girls, I just couldn’t find one that I really LOVED. Then I realized that there were some gorgeous crocheted flowers with six sides, and I could make a hex from one of those. So this pattern was born. I will do my best to teach it to you.

ETA: I have had many questions about what yarn I used. It is Lion Brand Cotton Ease with a 4.5 mm hook, and 3 years later, it is still holding up very nicely!

and another ETA 6/8/14: Lion Brand has discontinued a lot of the colors of Cotton Ease. I would recommend using Lion Brand Hartland yarn in it’s place, and a 5.50 or 6.00 mm hook.

I have had many requests for a video and a chart for this pattern.
I have made a set for first 3 rows (the flower) and the optional dimensional flower here,
and another set for turning the flower into a hexagon here.
You can also find a video to show the join-as-you-go for grannies method here.
