Puffed Shells Cowl

This easy one-skein pattern features shell stitches with puff stitches in the center. The puff stitches add a great texture to the cowl. It is crocheted in a rectangle, and then seamed together t make the cowl. Keep your neck warm this fall and winter with this trendy tweed cowl!
Size:
6″ tall, 25″ around
Yarn:
Universal Yarn, Deluxe Worsted Tweed: Garnet 901
85 g/185 yd/170 m
Hook/Needles:
US-H/8, 5.00mm
Gauge:
16 sts x 11 rows = 4” [10 cm] in pattern
Other supplies:
yarn needle
Stitches and Abbreviations:
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sp(s) – space(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)
puff st – Puff Stitch: [yo, insert hook into st, yo, pull through st] 4 times, all in the same st (9 loops on hook), yo, pull through all 9 loops, puff stitch made.
psh – puff shell: (dc, puff st, dc) all in designated st.
Getting Started:
To check gauge, make the cowl for 5″, then measure within the cowl to find your gauge.
Pattern:
Row 1: Ch 24, sc in 2nd ch and each remaining ch across. – {23 sc}
Row 2: Turn, ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout) 2 dc in same st, [skip 1, sc in next st, skip 1, psh] 5 times, skip 1, sc in last st.
Row 3: Turn, ch 3, 2 dc in same st, [sc in next puff st, psc in next sc] 5 times, sc in last st.
Repeat row 3 until piece measures 25″ long.
Cut yarn leaving a long tail to seam, and fasten off. Fold into a circle, and use long tail to seem 2 short sides together. Weave in all ends
