Did you know that according to the Craft Yarn Council, 6 out of every 10 knitters and crocheters crafted a project for charity in 2014? If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know how much I love and encourage crafting for charities.

So, I’m quite happy to tell you that Red Heart has teamed up with Red Cross North America (USA, Canada, & Mexico). Red Heart has a free blanket pattern just for this event, made to be perfect for donating to your local Red Cross.

The pattern is available in both Crochet and Knit, so either way, there is a version for you! There is also a matching pillow pattern in both knit and crochet, and a knit first aid kit. Red Heart is also donating $250,000.00 to the Red Cross this year! You can find even more details about Red Heart and Red Cross here, including a short and informative video.

In addition to the Red Cross support, Red Heart is encouraging their customers to craft for charities in other ways. To help with that encouragement, they have set up a Facebook group you can join to show off your charitable crafts, and to learn more about crafting for charities.

So, grab your hooks or needles and your yarn, and get creating!! Use the hashtag #StitchAHug when sharing your charitable projects on social media. To get you going, here are some patterns I’ve designed with Red Heart yarn that would be great for donating to various charities – just click the images to go to the free patterns:
