Rippled – a crochet skirt in many sizes!

This skirt can be long or short, and comes in sizes toddler to adult 5x – so there is something for everyone! Made with a basic ripple, it is really quite easy. The pattern is listed as intermediate because of the waistband, but just take it one stitch at a time and you will have no worries. Choose your favorite colors of Bernat Softee Baby to make this skirt your very own. The best part? It’s machine washable and dryable!!

Size:
Measure hips and choose the size that is the closest without being smaller.
Toddler (Chd S/M, Chd L, XS/S, M, L/XL, 2x, 3/4x, 5/6x)
Hips: 22 (27, 32, 37, 43, 48, 54, 59, 64) in

Yarn:
Bernat Softee Baby: Grey Marl 30045 – Color A
Bernat Softee Baby: Baby Denim Marl 30300 – Color B
Amounts needed will vary greatly based on size and length of skirt.

Hook:
US-7, 4.5mm

Gauge:
15 sts x 8 rows = 4” [10 cm] in dc

Other supplies:
Yarn needle
10 stitch markers
Enough 3/4″ waistband elastic for waistband

Stitches and Abbreviations:
ch – chain
bptc – back post treble crochet
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sp(s) – space(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)

Getting Started:
Make entire waistband with Color A, then alternate colors each round.

Pattern:

Waistband:
Rnd 1: With color A, fsc 80 (100, 120, 140, 160, 180, 200, 220, 240), sl st to top of first fsc to form a loop.
~or~ ch 81 (101, 121, 141, 161, 181, 201, 221, 241), sc in 2nd ch from hook and in remaining 79 (99, 119, 139, 159, 179, 119, 219, 239) chs, sl st to top of first sc made to form a loop. – {80 (100, 120, 140, 160, 180, 200, 220, 240) sc}
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each st around, sl st to top of beginning ch 3 to join.
Rnd 3: * Bptr in sc UNDER next st, sc in next st, repeat from * around, sl st to top of first bptr to join.
Note: from the front you will have worked a sc in every other dc from round 2, from the back you will have worked a post st tr in every other sc from round 1. Here are some images to help.

Skirt Body:
Rnd 1: Ch 5 (counts as first dc and ch 2 here and throughout), 2 dc in same st, *dc in next 3 (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) sts, place marker, skip 1, dc in next 3 (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) sts, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next st; repeat from * 8 more times, dc in next 3 (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) sts, place marker, skip 1, dc in next 3 (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) sts, dc in same st as beginning ch, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 5.
Row 2: Sl st into ch-2 sp, ch 5, 2 dc in same sp, *dc in each st to one st before marker, remove marker, place marker, skip 2, dc in each dc to ch-2 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 sp; repeat from * 9 more times, dc in each st to one st before marker, remove marker, place marker, skip 2, dc in each dc to ch-2 sp, dc in same st as beginning ch, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 5.
Repeat row 2 to desired length.

Finish off and weave in ends. Thread elastic under the post sts on the inside of the waistband, sew elastic end together.
