Seaming Crochet Craftsy class review from Jessie At HomePin

Last week I took some time and watched Lindsey Stephens’ new Craftsy Class – Seaming Crochet. I am so glad I did!!

Lindsey happens to be one of my tech editors, and that’s saying a lot as I’m very picky about who I trust with my patterns. So, I had high expectations for this class, and I wasn’t disappointed. Lindsey breaks down the various needs for seams – such as do they need to hold a lot of stress, do they need to flow, do they need to be invisible, do you want a decorative seam, are you seaming lace, and much more. She then teaches several types of seams and lets you know when they are best, and when they would not work so well.

I was quite pleased to learn some new skills. In the picture below, you see some squares joined with chains. This is a skill I’ve never tried before, but I see it being used in some of my upcoming patterns; it’s really nifty!

I already knew how to do the slip stitch join, it’s one I really like. However, Lindsey showed a variation of it that I never thought of before. I’m telling you, Lindsey is one smart cookie!

Lindsey showed a couple ways to seam color work. One way she showed was what I normally do, but the other way was new to me, and a great option as well!

Another skill that was new to me was seaming lace. I’ve never needed to seam lace, but the thought of it is rather…terrifying! After taking Seaming Crochet, I know I could tackle lace seaming if I gave it a shot.

Lindsey teaches many other skills as well, including two ways to seam broomstick lace, and tips on seaming Tunisian crochet. I would highly recommend this class for both designers and crocheters. As a designer, it’s great to be able to recommend the best seaming method for your pattern. As a crocheter, sometimes patterns just say “seam” but don’t tell you how; after taking this class, you will be able to determine the best way to seam your project so that the seams are a beautiful as the rest of your work!

  1. I found this class 50/50. Some good, some not. The instructor does mattress stitch from the wrong side and it’s usually done from the right side and looks best that way.
