Some of my Christmas crafts

Back in November I had Doug grab a bin of mine from his mother’s attic. It was full of unfinished Christmas crafts. I pulled some of them out to make ornaments to give along with the many girt bags of banana bread and chai tea mix we had lined up for Christmas. There were a bunch of these little cross-stitch squares and those little round plastic music “boxes” to go with them. I seem to have lost the rest of the kits long ago.

I found some blue fabric and thought “mini pillows”. Not sure where that thought came from, but it did. So I sewed them together with a pretty gold loop on top and an opening in the bottom.

Then I flipped them right side out, stuffed them, squeezed in the music boxes, and hand stitched them shut. The result were the cute little cushy ornaments perfect for hanging off the handles of gift bags.

I also found some festive silver crochet yarn in the bottom of my “skinny yarn” bin. There were a few little snowflake-like crotchet pieces in the Christmas bin, so I used the silver yarn to make more. I sprayed them all with some fabric stiffener and had several more ornaments to go around. Here they are hanging off my cork board drying out (like my million dollar bill, wish it were real). I may do something like this again next year using the lovely Lucy’s snowflake pattern. I like it much better then mine, and it looks like it is not such a yarn guzzler as these were.

This isn’t a Christmas present, it is a birthday present for a surprise party we went to in December for one of Doug’s coworkers. Mom had sent me some cool origami paper and I couldn’t resist making pretty little flowers with some of it!

There was also this multi-sized paper. I made some nesting boxes with this colorful stuff! I have an idea of something to do with it, but I think that will be a while off.

As for the near future… Once I get some good snaps I will be revealing the Hexagon to Flower blanket ~ I finished it last week. I have also started the second blanket to go with that; one for each girl. This one is an Octagon and Square blanket. It’s a little more challenging  but should end up quite beautiful.

I also have some sewing projects lined up. I have a medieval dress for a commission that I just finished pattering. I need to make Doug a new gambason (a padded “shirt” that is worn under medieval armor), I would love to actually make two of them. I also need to make him one or two more surcotes to go over his armor. And just to make sure I have an especially crazy winter, I also am going to make a 4 foot addition to come off the side of our 12×16 foot pavilion (medieval tent) to be used for storage when we are on our 2 week camping event this summer. Lots o’ stitching in store for me this winter!!

There will also be a few more yarnie projects thrown in here and there, too, I’m sure!

Have a lovely day, my friends. I will do my best to start snapping some pictures of my projects so you can see how it is all going.
