Spring Breaks 2015 – more then one and lots of fun

That’s right. Spring breakS. Pural. Last week the girls were on spring break, and the week before it was Doug. It’s such a bummer that they do not have the same spring break. But we make the most of it. Doug took 3 days during his spring break off of his second job (tutor for Huntington Learning Center) so he would have more time with the girls. They loved when he would pick them up from school and then be home the rest of the day.

While they were at school, he managed to clean Vada’s walls, caulk the trim, and base paint her room. She is going to have a fairy forest room. However, we do not have the time or finances to do that all right now, so it just got a good start. We had to replace the ceiling in the fall, so that was done already. Now the room is painted a light blue (walls and ceiling) and the trim around the windows and doors are a medium blue. This summer we will add some bookshelves that are tree~like (how that works is yet to be determined, though we have a few ideas), we will sponge paint a few clouds on the ceiling, paint the baseboards green, and paint a few trees on the walls, grass coming up from the baseboards, and flowers. Plus fairies. Lots of fairies. Oh, and lay down a new floor. We must be crazy.

Vada-and-Kyla-ReadingPin

Anyway…here is a cute snap of the girls reading together. If you want to see more adorableness as it happens, you should follow me on Instagram. I post yarnie stuff there, and I post some of our crazy life as it happens over there as well!

Easter-Toy-2015Pin

Here is a fun toy the girls got for Easter. They have been having a great time with it.

Just-a-few-business-cardsPin

I am all ready for the TNNA trade show next month!! I REALLY needed new business cards. The backs are cool too. There are 3 round pictures of some of my patterns on the left side, and the rest is blank so people can write whatever they need on the back. That is something I realized was necessary at the last knit and crochet show.

Book-Report-CoversPin

So there was a bit of drama at the beginning of the second spring break. I am moving on…We’ll just say the girls both have a book report with a project that was assigned nearly 2 months ago and due yesterday. They both chose the poster as the project, and these are the title images we made together for their posters.

Leftovers-pizza-dinner-nightPin

We have discovered a new favorite dinner. At least when it is just the girls and I. We bought some premade pizza dough from Trader Joe’s (you can buy it from most grocery stores, in the refrigerated section) and we made pizzas with leftovers. Here we have ham and cheese, broccoli, and falafel with feta.

My-little-princessPin

Princess Kyla. Just because.

Dance-Day-2015Pin

So on Friday morning the kid next door had a party in the backyard. He was playing music filled with obscenities VERY loudly. As in it sounded like it was in my living room. A while ago the little white speakers I have had for about 20 years went kaput and I just haven’t replaced them. So, Friday morning, I went downstairs, got my other set of 20 year old speakers (I know, go buy some new speakers woman!!), carried them upstairs, and connected them. I then proceeded to play my 2 disk set of classical overtures VERY, VERY loudly. The first overture was William Tell. The girls and I were laughing until our sides hurt. Eventually everyone turned the music down to a reasonable level and the girls danced around the living room for about an hour. Kyla even brought down a bunch of her stuffed animals to watch the dance. After the classical, we put in Phantom of the Opera and Grease. As soon as Music of the Night came on, Vada sat next to the speaker (the music was playing at a reasonable volume at this point) and just sat there, feeling the music. Yup, that’s my kid alright.

Working-awayPin

I have been working feverishly. In addition to trying to keep up with my new schedule, and still trying to catch up on all the behind the scenes stuff, I may have taken on a few more freelance designs then I should have. They will all get done, and done well, but I can’t say that my sanity will hold out. I am usually so good at saying “no”, but there are certain publishers that I just like so much, I forget how to say it.

Lite-Brite-Fun-2015Pin

Time to get back to my hook and needles. I will leave you with this cute little collage of the girls with their Lite~Brite. Yes, Vada did help, but they sometimes take turns based on color, and it was Kyla’s turn when I pulled out the camera.

Have a great week, my friends!
