How to make a flat circle in single, half double, or double crochet

Sometimes you need to crochet a flat circle. It is a good basic skill to know, so I am sharing a how~to with you. Here you will find written instructions with process photos to help, charts, and videos, showing how to crochet a flat circle in single, half double, and double crochet.

Here we go!

For the samples seen here, I used Peaches and Cream yarn, and an 8/H/5mm hook. However, this is really a tutorial showing you how to make flat circles, you can use nearly any yarn and a hook that works with your yarn.

Brilliant! Thank you! I watched your (very easy to follow) video, and I fully understood where you were coming from by round 6… My circle, although in half doubles, is flat as a pancake! Result! Happy days! x

Join the facebook group I have listed at the bottom of my patterns and post a photo along with a description of what you are doing. I can’t guess what you are doing wrong, so the best thing to do is give more info in the group, including a picture.

In the single crochet circle pattern text, Round 9 shows a total stitch count of 42 — I counted 60 stitches in the diagram.

The text now says 54, which is correct. The chart is missing row 1, so what you are seeing as row 9 is actually row 10.
