Crochet Cables ~ Crochet Pattern Round Up from Jessie At Home

Crochet Cables Pattern Round Up

Sometimes I get on kicks with my crochet, and currently I’m on a cable kick. I just love the texture and fun designs they create. There are several ways to make crochet cables, the most common of which is post stitch cables. Once you get the idea of how to make them down, they’re actually pretty easy! If you need a little help, here is a tutorial on crochet post stitch cables.

Now here is a collection of crochet patterns that feature cables which I have put together for you. Enjoy!!

Here are the names and links of each pattern, along with a little something that each designer has to say about them.

Two Ways Drink Cozy

Drink cozies are awesome in the summer! They catch the condensation, keep you from freezing your hand on your cold drink, keep your drink cold, and act as a traveling coaster for your gatherings. These knit can or bottle cozies can also be made in a variety of colors or stripes so that no one wonders who’s drink is who’s. This is a double pattern, one worked in garter stitch, and one in stockinette stitch. The Two Ways Drink Cozy pattern is part of my Patriotic Party KAL.

Crochet Patriotic Placemat

I love the look of the blue triangle and diagonal red and white stripes to represent the flag. It works so well for a placemat, and there is no worry of being disrespectful to the flag this way. I made a similar knit pattern a while back, and had quite a few requests for a crochet version. I had to find just the right stitch for it, and the linen stitch fit the bill. I have also included a chart of a mini version of the pattern which should help out with those of you who are more visual. This pattern is part of the Jessie At Home Patriotic CAL/KAL.

Striped Can Cozy

I love can cozies for parties. They are like attached coasters, and if they all look a little different they work to identify which drink is whose! Plus they keep your beverage cool without freezing your hand. This simple cozy pattern works on a can or bottle, and can be made as short or tall as you desire. It’s made with hdc stitches and can be made in stripes or solids. Enjoy!

While playing around with mitered squares to make coasters, I realized they could be made with an even or odd number of stitches, depending on how the decreases are made. So, rather than making that choice for you, I thought I would write a double pattern for you today. One mitered square coaster that starts with an even number of stitches and uses two decreases in the center, and one mitered square coaster that starts with an odd number of stitches and uses a double decrease in the center. Of course, there are still many more ways to make a mitered square, these are just my current favorites for evens and odds.

Alternate Stitch

The alternate stitch is a very simple stitch that provides texture and visual appeal to your projects. If you can make a single crochet, you can make the alternate stitch. In this post you will find a video to teach the stitch, written instructions, and a written and charted pattern for a practice piece.

Exciting CAL/KAL news!!

Hello, exciting CAL/KAL news!! Did you enjoy the Jake’s Blankie CAL? I hope so. Don’t forget, even though the last part of the CAL was posted last week, you still have one week to finish your blankie and enter in the drawing for 3 of my paid patterns ~ winner’s choice of which 3! Here is a reminder about how that works:

“If you are on Ravelry, you can find the pattern listing for this CAL here. Make a project page and link it to the Ravelry pattern listing. Upload photos as you go. Two weeks after the last day of the CAL (April 20th) I will randomly choose a winner from the completed projects linked to the pattern (with at least one photo of the completed blanket) to choose 3 of my paid patterns for free!! If there are a lot of completed projects with photos, I may choose more than one winner!”

So, next week I will anounce that winner.  I have a really awesome CAL I am hoping to start in June, and a fun CAL/KAL to fill in the space before then. I am shaking up how it is happening as well. This should be fun!!

This long, skinny cowl can be worn a multiple of ways. The fun stitch pattern is easy to memorize, and creates wonderful texture. It can be made with 2 coordinating skeins of Lion Brand Crepe yarn, and with more yarn, it can easily be made wider.

This pattern was named by my friend Jan, one of my fellow admins (the head admin, actually) of the Knitting Facebook group. Thanks Jan!!

Happy, pretty mail!

Last week I received a surprise in the mail from Lion Brand Yarn. Normally I do not like surprises, but when it comes to yarn companies, I am all for them!! When the package arrived, I giggled in anticipation, then impatiently ripped it open to find this: Ohhh! So pretty. And soft. And cuddly. I giggled some more. These are new members of the LB Collection family. I am a big fan of the LB collection. I actually have several … Read more
