Hello my blogland friends! I hope your summer has been wonderful. Ours is coming to a close – school is starting shortly. We’ve had some fun adventures this summer. We spent last week on LBI (Long Beach Island, NJ), and I have some photos to share with you. But first, I wanted to share some cake photos! My parents and I all missed the girl’s 9th birthday, so a few weeks ago when we were all together we had another birthday for them. We did a few things to celebrate, including letting the girls make their own cakes!

Drink cozies are awesome in the summer! They catch the condensation, keep you from freezing your hand on your cold drink, keep your drink cold, and act as a traveling coaster for your gatherings. These knit can or bottle cozies can also be made in a variety of colors or stripes so that no one wonders who’s drink is who’s. This is a double pattern, one worked in garter stitch, and one in stockinette stitch. The Two Ways Drink Cozy pattern is part of my Patriotic Party KAL.

Coasters and Placemats ~ Crochet Pattern Round Up from Jessie At Home

I drink a lot of ice water in the summer, and my cup always ends up in a puddle of water. So to me, summer means coasters! If you’re going to make some coasters, then why not make some placemats as well? This is how my mind works. So in honor of my crazy train of thought, here is a round up of coaster and placemat crochet patterns. Here are the names and links of each pattern, along with a little something that each designer has to say about them.

This sweet little tank is a great accessory for any little girl’s summer! It can be worn with jeans, a skirt, or anything in between. This pattern is only available in child small, I may one day go back and make it in more sizes, but that would most likely be a paid pattern. For now, this is the size I needed for a fun piece for one of my daughters for Easter, so this is the size you get for free. 🙂 I made it using some leftover Lion Brand Modern Baby yarn from another rainbow project I made. You can make yours in just one color, or however many make you happy!!

Wednesday Round Up 5/28/14 ~ Spring/Summer Wraps

Round-Up-Warm-Weather-Wraps Even in the warm months, there are evening when a cool breeze blows through. Here is a collection of 6 patterns to take the chill of those evenings. Enjoy!

Here are the names and links of each pattern, along with a little something that each designer has to say about them.

1)Chevron Lace Wrap ~ Free Crochet Pattern by Moogly It’s only August, but already the sunsets are earlier, the temps are dropping a little lower, and Autumn is surely on its way. Fend off the chill of overactive AC now and cool temps later with this Chevron Lace Wrap! Made with fingering weight cotton it’s a not-too-warm shawl in the fall and spring, and a warm breathable scarf in the winter.

2) Down the “Rocky Road” to Pick Spring Flowers – Crochet Shawl Pattern by Glamour 4 You This fabulous shawl is the winning shawl from the 1st round of The Battle of the Stitches.

3) Extended Ripple ~ Free Crochet Pattern by Jessie At Home This ripple pattern adds a lacey look to the classic ripple. This is really more of a stitch pattern; however, there are several finished project photos with details to help you with ideas. This pattern can be used with just about any size yarn and the coordinating hook. I do not recommend novelty yarns, as the textures of the yarn can make the stitches difficult or just take away from the look of the stitch pattern.

4)Zinnia Flower Shawl ~ Free Crochet Pattern by Fiber Flux The Zinnia Flower Shawl is a breath of fresh sunshine, crocheted in bright and happy colors. This triangle shawl is worked in an all over V stitch and finished off with a super simple edging. Perfect when you need a little something extra to throw over your shoulders.

5) Abstract Shawl ~ Free Crochet pattern by Posh Pooch Designs I am totally in love with this Shawl and how the pattern turned out, and especially this yarn. I used Red heart Boutique Treasure ABSTRACT. It is amazingly soft and light. The colors gently flow from tone to tone and shade to shade. The light weight yarn and the Long V Stitches are perfect for a Spring Shawl.

6) Natalie Crochet Net Shawl and Wrap ~ Crochet Pattern by Jessie At Home This net shawl or wrap is lightweight and perfect for a spring or summer accessory. Rather than using the popular net yarn to make ruffles or a scarf, it connects the yarn top to bottom to create an airy fabric. The shawl is half circle in shape, and the wrap is a bit more stretched out, becoming longer and thinner than the shawl.

Here comes the sun!! Keep yourself protected with a fabulous sun hat! Here are a few in both crochet and knit. To keep your little ones safe, check out this Spring & Summer Hats for Little Ones round up over at My Hobby Is Crochet!

1) Southern and Sassy by Kathy Lashley ~ Are you ready to create Southern and Sassy and not only look elegant but feel that way too? A beautiful hat perfectly made by you to keep the sun from your face during the day and look stunning for the beachside party at night. You can use Sinfonia yarn which is 100% mercerized cotton, so the hat is light weight and cool. Using quality products like the millinery wire enables you to make a well-crafted hat where the brim will stay in place as adjusted.

2) Shine On Sun Hat by Jessie At Home ~ Here is a summer sun hat for you to make and enjoy! Keep safe and be fashionable, all at the same time. The slight stretch of the yarn helps keep the hat in place, even in the wind, and gives the brim a lovely look. I named this hat Shine On, as in Shine On You Crazy Diamond (by Pink Floyd) because of the diamonds. A sun hat with diamonds seemed to have no other possible name!

3) The Summer Elegance Edition Pineapple Lace Sunhat from The Crochet Lounge ~ With this delicious Pineapple Lace Sunhat and all the Pineapple Lace Blitz posts to ensue, I have, once again, embarked on the hat designing journey that is going to soar with personal growth — yes, indeed, everything we face vs. avoid is a point of growth! 😀 Hooray for free crochet sunhat patterns as this hat debuts in The Crochet Lounge – The Summer Elegance Edition.

4) Azealia by Kelly Menzies ~ This charming wide brimmed hat is worked in the round but don’t let that put you off. This is the perfect pattern to learn this great way of knitting items using circular needles. With the simple stitches and the relatively short pattern you’ll get the hang of knitting in the round in no time, and you’ll have the lovely Azealia to show off your new found skill!

5) Adult Spring or Easter Hat Shell Stitch Cotton Hat with Spring Blossoms by Lorene of Cre8tion Crochet ~ This lightweight adult spring or Easter hat is made with 100% cotton and is a perfect choice for Spring weather. This hat is created with dc and dc shell stitches. The brim has just a slight ruffle and the flowers are a sweet addition.

6) Windansea by Kristi Porter ~ Here is a fun knit sun hat that comes as a free bonus pattern on Amazon. No purchase necessary!
