Many years ago I made a shawl for my mother using this pattern, but I never wrote it down. It’s super simple, and works up so quick! It’s a great way to show off a pretty ribbon yarn. This shawl is great for the spring and summer as it is very lightweight.

Universal Yarns cotton supreme yarn review from Jessie At Home

Have you tried Universal Yarn Cotton Supreme? I tried it the first time a few years back when I designed the Rachel Skirt. I used it to make this fun skirt for Vada!

That skirt held up to wearings and washings until she grew out of it just recently. I washed it on gentle and laid it flat to dry and never ran into any problems!

For this review, I thought I should give the Cotton Supreme a go in both crochet and knit. First, let me say I really like working with it. It’s 100% cotton, yet it does not have the stiffness you sometimes get with the kitchen-type cottons: you know, the kind that sometimes cause groves in your finger, even when your gauge isn’t tight? Universal Cotton Supreme is super soft! It’s like running a cotton ball over your fingers. It’s a real joy to work with. It’s not at all splitty, which also aids in the joy of creating with it. Of course, the washability is a big plus in my book as well. Due to the softness of the yarn, it moves nicely, making it suitable for clothing, as you saw with Vada’s skirt.

Here are the unblocked swatches I made the other day. The top row is crochet, and the bottom is knit. As you can see, it works nicely for both and has very clear stitch definition. You can’t see that they are all soft and they move smoothly, but they are. They are not at all stiff, not even the single crochet swatch, which is the one most likely to be stiff. This yarn would be perfect for baby items!

There is a wide variety of colors available as well. Take a look and grab some for an upcoming project.
