Weighted Blankets, Vests & Scarves book review from Jessie At HomePin

This January I received a copy of Weighted Blankets, Vests & Scarves by the lovely Susan White Sullivan, and I thought I would review it for you.

This is a sewing book, but you really only need basic sewing abilities to create the pieces in this book. I would give it a beginner rating.

The book begins with a short section about the each project in the book. From there it goes on to a very sweet note from the publisher that explains why this book is something he has a personal interest in. Next is a very informative introduction by an occupational therapist. It really explains how and why the items in this book are so wonderful and useful.

Susan has included a great getting started section that explains everything you will need to make the projects in this book. There are weight and size recommendations and some useful charts, so there is no guesswork when you are trying to figure out the best way to make each project for the individuals you are making them for!

Now we get into the patterns! They are all written in an easy to follow manner, so even a novice can follow along. There are material lists and notes for before you begin to give you all the info you need to succeed. There are plenty of useful illustrations to walk you through each project.

The vest project teaches you how to add the weighted sections to a store bought vest, and there is also a section that explains how to add the weighted sections into a purchased sewing pattern if that is the way you choose.

Finally there is a bonus section on machine applique designs so you can make each project your own! Susan has even included some templates for a few adorable design ideas, and templates for the alphabet as well. Everything you need to create some wonderful projects is included in this book!

I would highly recommend this book for anyone looking to make weighted blankets, vests, or scarves. It is very thorough and clearly a lot of research was put in to make sure the information given is the best it can be. You can purchase your own copy from Amazon HERE.

Happy sewing!
