Enigma

Yep, that’s me, I’m an enigma. A medical enigma.

I woke up on Monday morning with a little bit of pain. But I went about my Monday as I usually do, I went to the market, unloaded the groceries, and then to work. But the pain didn’t go away. It got worse. And nothing I could do made it any better.

Now thankfully I had already edited the post with the pattern I wanted to share with you. So I was still able to share that. Really at that point, it was a lot of work, but not a lot of thought. So I was able to do a little work, take a little nap, do a little work, take a little nap, and so on.

I wasn’t really sure what was wrong. But I guess I hoped that if I just took care of myself it would get better. It didn’t. So yesterday I called my doctor. I was able to schedule an appointment for this afternoon. At this point I was feeling extreme fatigue, and slept most of the next 24 hours.

So I went to my doctor’s appointment. It turns out it was with a nurse/practitioner, because my doctor isn’t in on Wednesdays. I nearly cried. I figured I was going to fall into one of two categories, either I was extremely overreacting to something that was actually really pretty much nothing, or there was something wrong with me in a way that required an actual doctor. But I just kept reminding myself that a nurse/practitioner has many of the same qualifications as a doctor and would still be able to help me.

So I talked with her for a bit, did the temperature, the blood pressure, the 20 questions and then some, and the seriously confused look. She gave me a cup and sent me to the restroom, and then had me wait. About five minutes later she came back in with the Doctor. As I said, enigma.

There were more questions, exams, and hopping on 1 foot. No really, he had me hop on 1 foot. The right one. I think he was trying to rule out appendicitis.

They drew some blood and scheduled me for a CT scan later today. The tests they had done so far had all come back fine. At this point, their best guess is diverticulitis. However, every guess they had up until this point, I proved wrong. So who knows what is wrong with me?

After my appointment, I went down the street to the radiology center to pick up some barium. I had a choice between plain, which is a little bit citrusy, banana, or berry. I chose plain.

I started drinking at five minutes ago, it’s not that bad. I’ve never had a CT before. This should be interesting. They put a rush on the results, so they are hoping they will be able to call me in a prescription right away. At least something for the pain.

So that’s been my little adventure this week, and the week is only halfway over. We’ll see what happens from here. I have a Daisy meeting tomorrow night, which I am supposed to be leading. I am really hoping I can go to that. We also have the Liberty Science Center sleep over this weekend, and I will be very sad if I did not get to chaperone. So I’m really hoping we are able to get all of this under control before that. Or at least enough under control that I can attend the sleepover with the Girl Scouts.

Anyway, it is still my goal to be able to give you all the fun stuff I scheduled for National Crochet Month. And don’t try to talk me out of it! It will make me happy and give me something to do. Like I don’t have enough to do. 🙂

All right, I need to go and drink more of the stuff. I’ll let you know what happens.
