The double crochet stitch is a versatile stitch that is used in many crochet patterns and projects, as well as being one of the most commonly used crochet stitches. This tutorial will show you the basics of double crochet, a replacement for the ch-3 at the start of a new row or round, working in a chain and in a stitch, as well as additional tips. It includes step-by-step instructions with photos and easy-to-follow videos for both right-handed and left-handed crocheters. With this tutorial, you’ll be a double crochet expert in no time.

How To Make A Double Crochet
The basic instructions for a single crochet, as is often seen in stitch definitions, is:
Double Crochet (dc): Yo, insert hook in st, yo, pull through st (3 loops on hook), [yo, pull through 2 loops] 2 times.

Make as many chains as you want single crochets, plus two – so for a row of 10 double crochet, you will chain 12. Place a marker around the first chain (next to the hook):

insert hook in 3rd ch from hook (skipped chains will count as the first dc of this row):

pull thought 2 (2 loops on hook):

pull through both loops:
