This video teaches the basics of how to make a half double crochet.

When reading a pattern, half double crochet is abbreviated as “hdc.” Here are some photo stills to show the making of the hdc.

hdc ~ half double crochet
st ~ stitch
yo ~ yarn over

yo, insert hook into next st, yo, pull through st, (3 loops on hook) yo, pull through all 3 loops
