I love big hook crochet! Everything gets done so much quicker. You can make a giant rug in a just a few days, and a bag in a day. Well, my friend Dedri happens to feel the same way, and she even wrote a book about it! And what a book!

Big Hook Rag CrochetĀ starts out with a very sweet introductions, goes on to present 25 fabulous patterns by 15 designers, and finishes up with a wonderful section which explains various methods of making rag yarn, and a thorough how-to of most of the sts used in the book.

As you may have figured out, I adore this book. The back section of tips and tricks and tutorials is wonderful. The explanations are all very clear, and it’s full of photos to show all the steps. With the information in this section, even a novice crocheter can make the patterns in this book. Plus, now I have more ideas for all the old tee shirts I have boxed up waiting to become something fun.

Speaking of something fun – that’s exactly what the patterns in this book are, fun!!

Snowflake Rug by Helen GlazePin

This Snowflake Rug by Helen Glaze is my favorite pattern in the book. I keep thinking about making a giant, lacey rug for my studio, and this one is so pretty!

Here are a few more of my favorites from the book. Across the top is the Table Settings set by Michelle Stys, and on the bottom is the Floor Cushion by Cathy Hetznecker and the Fun Fruit Pouffes by Dedri Uys. See what I mean about the patterns being fun?

I had a bit of leftover lycra/jersey mix rag yarn from a previous project and I wanted to give one of the patterns in the book a go. I looked through and realized the Plant-Pot Cover by Osnat Ganor would actually fill a need I had. In organizing my new studio, I have come across some knitting needles that are just too long to fit in any of my organizers. So I made the cover, with one less round on the base. It works perfectly!! I even had a little yarn left over to make a big bow on the side.
