That’s right. Everyone here has a nasty cold! So much so that my childhood security “blanket” was brought down from his perch on a high shelf in the girls room.

Getting my Ducks in a Row
I really need to take a cue from my daughters.
I am working on the duck~row~thing. I just also have the short~attention~span~girl thing. And the busy~mommy thing. And the so~many~things~so~little~time thing…
Powerful Powerless Lessons
So it snowed Saturday morning/afternoon. Umm…isn’t it October. Who ever heard of a white Halloween? It was a bit odd. I had already told the girls we would go to the grocery for their Trick or Treating at noon, so we ran out to the car and braved the oddness.
About 3:30, Doug and I were playing with the girls in their room, and the power went out. It soon became clear it was going to stay out for quite a while.
The girls informed Doug that they wanted to “Throw snowballs at Daddy!”, so they all bundled up and out they went. I stayed in and made dinner. Yet another reason I am fond of my gas stove!
Feeling Better
I am finally starting to feel healthy again. Just the last remaining bits of congestion, but other then that, I am feeling good. I am also finally getting out of my funk.
Now that I am feeling better, these past two days have been very productive. I got a good bit of cleaning done. I went through some piles of paper that needed to be dealt with; and I even organized the foot tall stack of paper that needs to be scanned into categories (phone, car, medical and so on) so I can start scanning them in an organized fashion!
I came up with a plan and put it in motion to get my recipes in order. Every week I make a menu, and enter the recipes in a great recipe organizer on the internet, where I can also put my menu on a calendar. I did do that for this week, and even printed out the recipes onto index cards and put tabs in my index card box to keep them organized. I figure if I do this every week, eventually all my recipes will be in order. On the website, I can rate the recipes, and put tags on them, so that will help with picking out menus in the future. I still want the printed out index cards, so I don’t have to take the laptop into my tiny kitchen. I’m very excited about this, because I have so many magazines laying about with recipes I want to try, and a many, many bookmarked web pages with recipes, also. Maybe I’m just silly that way, but
Lookie what I made!
I was cleaning up a bit in my bedroom and needed a place for some pens. So I grabbed an old ~ cleaned ~ pickle jar, and some scrap fabric and…
I like it. It makes me happy and only took a few minutes. Good idea for all sorts of things. Knitting needles, crochet hooks, brushes, you can even use smaller bottles for yarn needles.
What a nice surprise!
On Friday evening, my mother-in-law came to take the girls for the weekend. Doug and I had plans to reorganize their room so it would be toddler safe, and to change the cribs to toddler beds. Also, there is a closet in their room that runs the length of one wall, about 12 feet, and has sliding doors. It has a shelf running across the top of the closet that can stack paper boxes 2 high. I wanted to reorganize that closet. Some things needed to come out of the closet and move into my bedroom, and visa versa.
Doug did have to work a bit on Saturday, so I chose to sleep in a bit, before all the craziness began. So there I was, lounging lazily in bed at about 9:20 on Saturday morning. I had been awake for a while, but was unable to bring myself to leave the comfort of the warm blankets.
My projects.
I found the perfect yarn and made the perfect hexagon for my Fort Blanket project. Look at these pretty colors! After browsing around looking for patterns I saw a beautiful six petal flower that I knew would become the hexagon I was searching for. I took my hook in hand and experimented a bit. The finished hex was better than I had dreamed.
This is just a sneak peak of the hexes, there will be more crochet goodness later!
Lookie what I found!!!
We had a nice long weekend. Doug was off today – no school. I took advantage of him being home and went out Saturday.
I was on a mission.
I had finally admitted that I do not play my keyboard often enough to justify it taking up valuable real estate in the bedroom. So it was gently packed up and put in the big ol’ closet in the girls’ room. Now I just needed to find some sort of storage/bookshelf/whatever to put in the keyboard’s old home. That way my sewing and craft supplies could finally make it out of the girls’ closet and into my bedroom.
Off to Target I went. They had some great, affordable bookshelves, but not affordable enough to buy them without further searching. Downhearted, I set off on my way home. Moments after pulling out of parking lot I came upon a garage sale, and saw this:
