The Secret Stitch – review and giveaway!

This summer I had the pleasure of reading The Secret Stitch by C.Jane Reid. When I first picked it up I was a little worried as it is “fiber fiction” and sometimes books written around hobbies aren’t the greatest. I was very happy to discover that C. Jane Reid is really wonderful author!

Stay tuned to the end of this post for a chance to win your own copy!

The book is centered around Ailee, a Scots-Irish newly-wed who is immigrating to America with the husband she barely knows. There is some mystery around

NYC Yarn Crawl 2016 – or, we came, we crawled, we got Starbucks.

This past Sunday I went on the NYC Yarn Crawl with my awesome friends Marie of Underground Crafter and Amy of The Stitchin’ Mommy. We weren’t able to hit all the stores on the crawl, as we just had one day, but we had a great time at the stores we did hit.

Our first store was School Products Yarn. I didn’t snap any photos at that store,  but I got some at the rest.

Our second stop was Annie & Company.

We really enjoyed this store. It was pretty big, and full of some of the most scrumptious yarn!! Plus, they had a bunch of fun buttons!!

What it’s really about

At this time of year, I try to remember what Christmas is really about to me. It’s not about what you get, it’s about helping. It’s about being kind.

Every year, I like to share my favorite Christmas story with all of you. I wrote this post a few years ago, and I like to reread it every year as a reminder of what Christmas is really about.

Thankful

Today I am thankful for Doug’s Grandmother, Gertrude ~ Gertie to her friends.

The first time I met Doug’s family was for his Grandfather’s 89th birthday. Doug was very close to his grandfather, and he said he didn’t think his grandfather was going to be around for 90, so he wanted me to meet him. We had only been dating for about a month, and I met the whole family all at once. It was a little scary, but I had a nice time, and I really liked both his grandparents.

Doug was right, his grandfather didn’t see 90. Gertie came to most of the family functions with her son, Tom. I remember the first Easter I spent with them. Doug and I had been dating for almost a year at that point. Someone mentioned peeps, and I said the only thing they were good for was blowing up in the microwave. This intrigued Gertie. I told her that they expand in the microwave, and if you are careful you can stop the microwave before they explode and make a giant peep. This REALLY intrigued her. Alyson (Doug’s sister) and I went to the Wawa (like 7-11) and bought some peeps.

Unicorn Fibre Yarn Wash & Rinse Review

Hello my friends! I hope you had a fun and safe Halloween weekend!

Today I want to talk to you a bit about Unicorn Fibre and their yarn care line of products. These products are great for blocking your crochet and knit items, as well as cleaning and general care. They also work for cleaning yarnie family heirlooms!

When I first met the lovely ladies of Unicorn Fibre at the TNNA summer show several months back, my original intention was to share about the Pour Scour with you. Pour Scour is their product that is great for your super dirty jobs. Maybe you have a yellowing baby blanket that has been handed down for generations, a handmade afghan that you inherited from a smoker, your baby sweater that smells like the attic it was stored in, or maybe you spilled your glass of wine or mug of tea or coffee on your current work in progress. Pour Scour is the product you need for these situations! Now, I was planning on giving it a big old testing of all sorts of situations for you, but then plans changed.

As you know if you’re one of my regular readers, there was a bit of a soot disaster in my makeshift basement workroom a a couple months back.

Rhinebeck 2015

Happy Tuesday my friends! I hope your week is off to a good start.

Did you do anything special for I Love Yarn Day on Saturday? I went to Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival. I didn’t take a lot of pictures, as I was having a lot of fun and kept forgetting.

I did remember to take a photograph of where I parked. I’ve been doing that a lot when I go somewhere by myself. I’m always worried I’ll forget where I parked. But I’m sure you don’t need to see that photo, so here are a couple I took of yarnie people and pretty fall foliage.

The Sheep and Wool Festival is often just referred to as “Rhinebeck” by yarnie folk, as it is in Rhinebeck, NY. It happens

oh-soot

Oh soot!

Well, it’s been quite a week over here. Last Monday there was a bit of a home improvement snafu. On Thursday I made a video to tell you about it and to show you around my basement as it was at that moment. Please excuse the shaky view of a hammer at the beginning while I ramble on (and the misspelling of shaky on the video, it’s been a long week). So, I will share some of those sooty photos with … Read more
