  • Starting with round 2, this hat is worked in continuous rounds (spiral). A removable stitch marker is placed and moved each round to keep track of round ends. The last sc of each round is worked into the marked st, then a ch is made and the marker is placed around the ch.
  • Rnd counts are at the end of each Rnd after the period, if the count has changed from the previous Rnd. {count here}
  • Chs and sl sts are not included in Rnd counts unless specified.

Crochet Bucket Hat Free Pattern Finishing

Use some scrap yarn to make a hat band, running it under a sc from the last round of the hat sides every several inches. Tie it in a bow on the side. Or dress it up with some other trim and accents to make it your own.

  1. I have seen several of your patterns that I would enjoy making but none of your instructions take o a print-friendly button of any kind. I would also love to be able to save them to my crochet file and make them at a later date.

    • There is a link at the bottom of the patterns to where you can get the pattern in PDF from from Craftsy. It’s $2 as I loose my advertising money if you print it, and as I took the time to format it. Otherwise, there are ways to print it neatly, you just have to do some work to get it neat if you want to save the $2.

      • Thanks. I understand and will do what you suggest. Your instructions led me to think that there was an actual print-friendly button but I now see the PDF selection for $2.00.
        Happy Crocheting to you.

  2. hi, thankyou for the patter, can i ask whether the 1st part of your pattern will fit a 3 yr old, as i would like to make it for my daughter x

    Reply
      • ok, thanks. ive measured around her head and its 19 inches, you pattern says it will fit 18 inches, so i might just try it, and if its too big ill try going down down to a 4mm hook, ill let you know how it turns out x

  4. I’m confused at round 7 of the top– I’ve started over this hat so many times and each time I try again I always end round 7 two stitches early.

    I did the math:
the first SC and ch1 (2)
    + 5x sc ch-1 (10) + sc ch-1 sc (3) + ch-1 (1) (all times 3 = 42)
    + 5x sc ch-1 (10)

    = 2+42+10 = 54, not 56

Instead of working the last sc of round 7 into the marked stitch I’m two stitches behind…

Thank you for the pattern and love the look of this hat! I’m probably missing something silly but let me know what you think.

  5. I love this hat, I am going to make it for my daughter
And her little girl, who live in France. And also myself.

I am 76 and have been crocheting since I was about

  6. Love this!

Is it possible to keep expanding the brim beyond row 9 to make it flare out more?

And will using multiple colors to make it striped be an issue?

    Reply
    • You should be able to make the brim larger without much problem. If you want stripes you’ll want at least 2 rounds per color in order for it to look like stripes in this st. If you look at the Linen St tutorial that’s linked, there should be some color layout ideas there. I’ll also put this stitch pattern on my color layout PDF to-do for the subscriber area.
