Divergent Necklace ~ Free Knit Pattern from Jessie At HomePin

Divergent Necklace Clover

Here is a great addition to your spring wardrobe, because spring is coming! I love playing with colors, shapes and textures in my knitting. The Divergent Necklace is the result of this. Short rows are used to add stockinette wedges into the garter stitch necklace base. Even if you have never used short rows before, you can make this piece by first watching the free Craftsy class I have linked to help you understand this technique.

Getting Started:
This pattern uses short rows. If you are not familiar with short rows, or just need a refresher, I find this free class from Craftsy very helpful.

Here is a summary of one way to do short rows:

To make a W&T on a purl row: slip 1 st to right needle, pass yarn from front to back, slip stitch back to left needle, turn and begin next row.
To make a W&T on a knit row: slip 1 st to right needle, pass yarn from back to front, slip stitch back to left needle, turn and begin next row.
When working back and picking up wraps: work to wrapped st, slip wrap off the stitch and onto the needle, knit both the st and the wrap together on a knit row, or purl both the st and the wrap together on a purl row.

Pattern:

With color A, cast on 180 sts

Row 1: Slip 1 knit wise, K 24, place marker, K to end, turn.

  1. Can you pls explain how this is a “Divergent” necklace? My daughter, who is a big fan of the books and film, said she couldn’t see the connection.
