When I was asked to join the Chic Sheep blog tour I was so honored. I love Chic Sheep yarn! The lovely colors inspired me to make a hat with a flower center. The flower turns into a hexagon and then into the sides of the hat. Choose the same colors as seen in the pattern, or come up with a color combo of your own!

Red Heart Chic Sheep Yarn by Marly Bird, 100% wool, 100 g/186 yds
Green Tea 5620, Color A: 18 g/34 yds
Suite 5681, Color B: 20 g/38 yds
Fairy Tale 5673, Color C: 30 g/56 yds
Hook:
US-H/8, 5.0mm
Gauge:
16 sts x 9 rows = 4” [10 cm] in dc

Stitches and Abbreviations:
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
dc cl – double crochet cluster
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch
sp(s) – space(s)
st(s) – stitch(es)
Pattern:
Hat Top:
Rnd 1: With Color A, ch 4, sl st to first ch made to form a ring, ch 2 (counts as first hdc), 11 hdc in ring, join with a sl st to top of beginning ch 2. – {12 hdc}
Rnd 2: With Color B, ch 2 (does not count as a st), dc cl in same st, ch 1, [dc cl in next st, ch 1] 11 times, join with a sl st to first dc cl made. – {12 dc cl}
Rnd 3: With Color C, Sl st into ch-1 sp, 6 dc in next ch-1 sp, [sl st in next ch-1 sp, 6 dc in next ch-1 sp] 5 times, sl st in first ch-1 sp. Cut yarn and weave in all ends. – {6 petals}
Rnd 4: With Color A, sl st in between 3rd and 4th ch of any ch-6 cluster, ch 3, [dc over top of sl st and into space between the petals of rnd 2, ch 3, sl st between 3rd and 4th ch of next ch-6 cluster] 5 times, dc over top of sl st and into space between the petals of rnd 2, ch 3, sl st in first sl st made. – {12 sets of ch 3}
Rnd 5: Sl st in ch-3 sp, ch 3 (counts as first dc), (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-3 sp, [3 dc in next ch 3 sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp] 5 times, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, sl st in top of beginning ch 3. Cut yarn and weave in ends. – {6 sides of 9 dc with 6 ch-2 corners}
Size Small move onto set up row for sides.
Rnd 6: With Color B, sl st into any ch-2 sp, ch 5 (counts as first dc and ch-2), dc in same ch-2 sp, [dc in each dc to next ch-2 sp, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-2 sp] 5 times, dc in each dc to next ch-2 sp, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 5. – {6 sides of 11 dc with 6 ch-2 corners}
Size Medium move onto set up row for sides.

Size Medium: Sl st into ch-2 sp, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in same ch-2 sp, [dc in each dc to next ch-2 sp, 2 dc in ch-2 sp] 5 times, dc in each dc to end of rnd, sl st to top of beginning ch 3. Move onto hat sides – {78 dc}
Size Large: Sl st into ch-2 sp, ch 3 (counts as first dc), [dc in each dc to next ch-2 sp, dc in ch-2 sp] 5 times, dc in each dc to end of rnd, sl st to top of beginning ch 3. Move onto hat sides – {84 dc}
Hat Sides:
Rnds 1-3: With Color C, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each dc around, sl st to top of beginning ch 3.
Rnd 4: With Color A, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each dc around, sl st to top of beginning ch 3.
Rnds 5-6: With Color B, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each dc around, sl st to top of beginning ch 3.
Rnds 7-9: With Color C, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each dc around, sl st to top of beginning ch 3.
Size Small end here.
Rnd 10: With Color A, ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each dc around, sl st to top of beginning ch 3.
Sizes Medium and Large end here.
Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Pretty in its simplicity! This looks like the perfect project we can use for the chemo caps we will be making at churchin October, for the local Cancer Care center. Also noticed the breastforms that may be made as well.

I’m excited to start this pattern. Would you clarify the double crochet cluster? How many stitches in the cluster? I’ve read the pattern thru and looked at the picture and I’m not sure.
