Fun, yarn, and home repair

It has been a rather interesting couple of weeks. There has been lots of good times, and lots of home repair/renovations as well.

Dance-BreakPin

This was one day last week. It was a bit chilly out, and we had arrived at school early, so we stayed in the car and had a dance break for a couple of songs. I believe “Against the Wind” was on for this dance.

Seed-Stitch-EntrelacPin

One night last week I had the urge to make a seed stitch & entrelac dish cloth. The squares were easy and quick, but the triangles were a bit fussy. I think if I do anything with this pattern I will make the triangle garter or stockinette. It will be less fussy and it will make a pretty border as well.

Box-of-RainbowsPin

The other day I received a box of rainbows from Red Heart. The color of this photo is a bit off, there is a green in there. This is going into 2 projects. One you will not see again until it is published, but the other I will share with you as it happens. It may be a week or three or five before that one hits my hook, though.

Wake-up-Daddy!Pin

Doug did not have school today. Kyla was not amused at his attempt to relax after his morning workout.

It's-that-time-of-yearPin

Vada brought this home from school today. I LOVE it!!! I asked her why the turkeys were kissing. “Because they are in love, Mommy!!”

patched-ceilingPin

When we came home from our first Girl Scout meeting this year, Vada informed me that her ceiling was on the floor. We knew the plaster was separating from the lath, but we thought it would hold out until the beginning of November, when Doug had a 4 day weekend and we could replace the ceiling. No such luck. We really did not have the time to fix the ceiling in September when it fell, so the edges of the hole were cleaned up, and it was patched with plastic and duct tape.

The-other-side-of-Vada's-roomPin

This past weekend was Doug’s 4 day weekend, so we moved Vada’s bed into Kyla’s room and cleared out the rest of her room.

Plaster-downPin

Doug removed all the plaster. I am so glad I did not have to do this ceiling. When I did Kyla’s I had spaghetti arms forever! Though it is a good stress reliever.

New-ceiling-upPin

Up with the mold and mildew resistant ceiling. We have a great roof, and no reason to think it will leak, but for a few dollars more, why not be a little safer?

Look-drywall-tapePin

This is the windowsill in Vada’s room. See the drywall tape?

no-drywall-tapePin

This is the new ceiling. The seams have mud, but no tape. I’m not sure why. Doug did this ceiling basically by himself. I don’t know if someone at Home Depot told him he didn’t need to tape, or what. Whatever, I am going to let it go. It’s done and ready to be painted. Most likely the whole second floor will get a facelift in 10 years, give or take, so it’s not a big deal.

with-mudPin

The ceiling is done. It just needs some sanding and paint. We are just going to give it a base of white, and move Vada back in. I can’t really handle renovating her room right now. That will most likely happen in the spring. Fall and winter are very busy for me, so I would most likely lose my mind if we tried to do her room right now.

That’s it for now. Time to read more of the Wizard of Oz series to the littles.

    • I totally agree Mom! This is the 3rd time we have found a ceiling on the floor in this house. The joys of owning a house that was built in 1900 and previously owned by people who did not keep it up well. Give us a decade and it will be stunning! The bones of this house are wonderful (on Monday the plummer was commenting on how well built the house is), it just needs some TLC. 🙂
