This double strand, double crochet scarf can be worked vertically or horizontally. The Leo scarf is so easy, quick, and fun. If you can chain and double crochet, you can make Leo! It is quite simple to adjust the size of this scarf, or just use the sizes given in the pattern that will fit a child on up to an adult, male or female. You can even add fringe or pom poms on the ends for even more fun! You can also find a pattern for this scarf made with 2 strands of worsted yarn, here. Make a matched set with the Eli hat or make a coordinating cowl for a friend with the Ali cowl.

Sizes:
Small (Medium, Large, XL)
Measurements: 4 x 40 (6 x 50, 8 x 60, 10 x 70)

Yarn:
Chunky weight yarn in two solid colors, or one solid and one variegated, such as Loops and Thread Charisma, or Lion Brand Homespun, or even 3 strands of worsted weight.

Supplies:
US 13/N/9.00 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle

Gauge:
Holding 2 strands of yarn together and working them as one: 7 stitches and 4 rows in dc make a 4” square.

Stitches and Skills used:
Ch ~ chain
dc ~ double crochet
sl st ~ slip stitch
St(s) ~ stitch(es)
Beg ~ beginning
Rep ~ repeat

Getting Started:
Hold 2 strands of yarn together and work as one for entire pattern.
There are notes in the pattern to change the size as you desire.

Vertical scarf:
Row 1:
Ch 9 (13, 16, 20), dc in 4th ch from hook dc in each remaining st across. (6 (10, 13, 17) dc)

To change the width of the scarf, multiply the width you want by 1.75, than add 2. For example if you want your scarf to be 14 inches then 14 x 1.75 = 24.5 + 2= 26.5, so you would start with 27 chains.

Row 2: Turn, ch 3 (counts as first dc) dc in each remaining st around. (7 (11, 14, 18) dc).

Rep row 2: until scarf is 40 (50, 60, 70) inches long, or desired length. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Horizontal scarf:

Row 1: Ch 72 (90, 107, 125), dc in 4th ch from hook dc in each remaining st across. (69 (87, 104, 122) dc)
Change the length of the scarf in the same manner as described above for changing the width of the vertical scarf.

Row 2: Turn, ch 3 (counts as first dc) dc in each remaining st around. (70 (88, 105, 123) dc).

Rep row 2: until scarf is 4 (6, 8, 10) inches wide, or desired width. Fasten off and weave in ends.
