I have been wanting to make a scoodie for a while now, and then last week I made some yarn from left over little balls I had, and it was screaming “scoodie!!” to me. So here is my fabulously fun scrappy scoodie pattern for you. 🙂

Scrappy Scoodie ~ Crochet Version
Crochet Pattern
Intermediate Skill Level
Designed by Jessie Rayot

Size:
Child small (18~20”) and large (20~21”) ~ sm (lg)

Yarn:
Loops and Threads Charisma
220 (300) grams

Hook:
US 10.5/K/6.50 mm

Gauge:
15 sts (5 sets of (sc, ch-1, sc)) by 11 rows in stitch pattern in a 4″ square

Stitches and Skills used:
ch ~ chain
sc ~ single crochet
st(s) ~ stitch(es)

Getting Started:
I had a lot of small balls of Charisma yarn left over from last year’s Christmas gifts. I cut it into 2~4 yard pieces and tied it back together to make this yarn. You can read more about how I “made” my yarn here.

Charisma Loops and Thread yarn is part of Michaels store brand yarn. If you do not have a local Michaels, you can replace it with another chunky yarn, just be sure to get the correct gauge.
Scrappy Scoodie

There is no need to weave in ends. Just make sure to tie a knot (really!!) and clip the end to the same length as all the other ends sticking out.

Stitch Pattern for a gauge swatch:
Chain 17
Row 1: (Sc, ch 1, sc) in the second ch from the hook, * skip 1, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the next ch, repeat from * until 2 ch remain, sc in last ch.
Row 2: Turn, ch 1, (sc, ch 1, sc) in each ch-1 across row, sc in last st.
Repeat row 2 until there are 15 rows, measure in the center of the gauge swatch.

Pattern:
Hood
Row 1: Ch 21 (25), sc in the back loop only of the second chain from the hook and in each remaining ch (20 (22) sc to this point), turn, sc in the other side of each chain back (another 20 (22) sc). (40 (44) sc)
Row 2: Turn, ch 1 (counts as first sc), skip first sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in next sc, * skip next sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in next sc, repeat from * until 2 sts remain, sc in last st. (19 (21) sets of (sc, ch-1, sc))
Row 3~17: Turn, ch 1(counts as first sc), (sc, ch 1, sc) in each ch-1 across row, sc in last st. (19 (21) sets of (sc, ch-1, sc))
End off (the hood will seem small, do not worry, the scarf will make it bigger)

Scarf ~ front half
Row 1: (This row will be a long chain, then connected to the bottom of the hood, then a long chain.) Ch 60 (70), (sc, ch 1, sc) in the side of first sc on the bottom of the hood, * skip the side of the next sc, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the side of the next sc, repeat from * to the end of the hood bottom, ch 61 (71). • Chain 17 means Chain 17
Then you make a sc, ch 1, sc all in the second chain from the hook. THen you skip one. THen you make a sc, ch 1, sc in the next ch. Then you keep skipping one and placing a sc, ch 1 sc in the next across until 2 sts remain, then you sc in the last ch. I don’t know how much clearer I can be. IF that isn’t good enough you’ll need to find someone local who knows how to crochet who can walk you through it.
