Increases: M1R and M1L Tutorial with Video

Learn to knit the M1R (make 1 right, or right leaning make one) and the M1L (make 1 left or left leaning make one). I have written out the stitch patterns, and included a video for both techniques.

M1R: Pick up a stitch by inserting left needle from back to front into the strand of yarn between the two needles. Knit into the picked up stitch through the front loop.

M1L: Pick up a stitch by inserting left needle from front to back into the strand of yarn between the two needles. Knit into the picked up stitch through the back loop.

Here is a video that shows the M1R and the M1L

  1. Hi Jessie,
I recently found your YouTube video showing increases (m1L and m1R). I want to use the demonstration swatch to knit a shawl without holes (yarn over) increases. Do you have a pattern for it? It would be a beautiful solid (not lace) shawl.
    Thank you ?

    • You mean one after the other? Just make the first one, then make the second one. It should work, but you may end up with a hole below them.
