Playing, Falling, and Fall

Well, Sandy is past and we are quite lucky. We only lost power for about 19 hours from Monday evening to Tuesday afternoon. The girls are off from school all week, Doug has been out from both jobs through today, and he will be off at least one of them tomorrow. Halloween has been postponed until Monday.

We heard a few thumps during the storm. Doug ran out to rescue this piece of siding that came down.

Just Hanging Around, Part 2

I finished my free found objects craft this morning. First, and most importantly, I found a lid for my coffee. No drinking sawdust for me!

Then I took those little square pegs and drilled some holes in them. Angled holes at the angled end, and straight in at the flat end.

Just Hanging Around, Part 1

I started a new project on Sunday. Because what I need is a new project. I should be able to finish it tomorrow. In my defense, it is a project that will make an existing project easier.

collecting-parts

I started by collecting all the supplies I thought I would need. All stuff found in my garage. OK, the deck posts were laying in the pile of deck wood outside my garage, but the rest was in there.

Spooky house and other cute moments

The other day the girls and I spent $3.00 at the grocery store on a pack of Halloween cut outs. We then put them in the front windows and on the front door.

Now every time we come home Vada says “Hi, Spooky House.” It’s kinda adorable!

Periwinkle! Pumpernickel! Pickles!

So why is it that P words work so nicely in place of other…um…colorful…words?

I went to Home Depot, and bought the shut off valve I wanted for the basement. I was all ready for  quick, easy job. I collected all the things I needed, shut off the water, and grabbed the cutter from the bucket of plumbing tools I had. Or so I thought I would. Maybe I should have checked to make sure it really was there before I went to the store. Uggg! I looked all over the back room of the basement, and the garage. No pipe cutter.

Chaos

Yup, chaos. Kind of explains a lot going on right now. I seem to have a decent routine on school mornings up unit I get home from taking the girls to school. Then it’s just a bit, well, chaotic. I’m working on getting into a routine during the school days. It seems like there is just more to do then time in the day. Market some days, laundry others, cleaning (always cleaning), organizing all the stuff in the basement, garage, spare room (which will one day be Kyla’s room), working on my designs/patterns, and, of course, spending time with you, my blogland friends. I know I can.

Firsts

Thought I would share a few firsts with you.

I took a few snaps of the first day of school, but I took them on my phone, and keep having issues posting them. The phone finally decided to play nice, so here they are.

Here we go. Off to school.

A Thousand Words

We all know the saying. Well this is my thousand word picture.

housework-and-home-repair

Housework and home repair. That is what my life is right now.

Anyway, here are some snaps of the girls that have piled up over the last month or two.

First Floor

I have snaps of the first floor to share with all of you. Let me start by reminding you we are still moving in. As a matter of fact, as I type this Doug is making the last few runs from the apartment to the house to get the last of our stuff. I still have to go back to the apartment and clean the heck out of it. Fun.

Anyway, we are still moving. There are boxes everywhere, accompanied by piles of “stuff” that needs to find homes. It’s a wreck. But you’ll just have to deal with the wreck if you want to see the pictures.

Also, we have a next~year~or~two plan of things that need to happen as soon as we have the money to do them (we really don’t want to charge anything,) and a 5~to~8~year~plan of things we want to have done to get the house to our dream home. I will share some of our ideas for the first plan, the second one will only cement your suspicions that I am completely off my rocker.

Ready?

Here we go.

Sub~Floor? What Sub~Floor?

So I have looked up when in the basement before. I actually spent quite some time looking at the joists with the inspector. Yet for some reason, I never really looked at the ceiling/floor above the joists. Maybe then I would have realized why someone put other imitation wood floors all over the first floor on top of the real wood.

See that ceiling; does it look familiar? Here’s the dining room floor again (the one on the left.)
