My daughter Kyla named these linen stitch mitts the Rock Star Mitts, “Because, they make me feel like a rock star!” Grab a Frabjous Fibers “Randomness Hat Kit” for enough yarn to make 1 adult set or 2 kids sets of these exciting and easy mitts. They are made in one piece each, with a thumb hole but no added thumb piece, so they are super easy. Come on, be a rock star!!

The Infinite Twilight pattern is one pattern that works up in two sizes, depending on the yarn or hook you use. Using Red Heart Boutique Twilight and an N hook will create an adult size cowl, and using Red Heart Boutique Infinity and a J hook will create a child size cowl (you can actually get 3 child cowls from one skein!) Both cowls are plush and warm and make for great Mommy and Me photo ops!

This crochet bread basket is a fun way to dress up your everyday dinner rolls, or to show off that pretty braided bread you picked up at the corner deli.  Be sure to use a washable yarn that is not too fuzzy so you can clean your bread basket as needed and so it doesn’t leave fuzz in your bread. You can also add a fabric or paper towel liner in your basket and serve chips or various other items out of it. You could even fill it up with wrapped candies!

This pattern is part of the patriotic party CAL/KAL.

This star crochet pattern can be used as a trivet or a centerpiece. If your gauge is the same as mine, I have marked where to stop the pattern for the trivet, or you can go all the way to the end to make the centerpiece. However, you do not have to match my gauge for this pattern to work! It will just be a different size. Please remember to stay safe: don’t use meltable yarn for a trivet, and this pattern is not intended to be used as a potholder.

This pattern is part of the Patriotic Party CAL/KAL.

Learn how to “slip stitch to join” as you see in patterns worked in the round. This post includes written instructions with photos, and a video to show you the slip stitch in action. The video also show how to use the slip stitch to move over several stitch, as is sometimes needed when working in the round.

This is NOT a tutorial on using slip stitch as a stitch of it’s own. You can find a tutorial for that here.

This video will show you how to use the slip stitch to join a chain into a ring, as is needed to start most motifs worked from the center out, how to use the slip stitch to join rounds, and how to use the slip stitch to move over several stitches.

Written instructions with photos:

Abbreviations:
sl st ~ slip stitch
yo ~ yarn over (wrap yarn around hook)

Slip stitch to join: insert hook into stitch that you are joining into, yo, pull through all the loops on the hook.

Here are photos to show how to join a chain into a loop/ring and how to use a slip st to join at the end of a round.

The slip stitch is not just for joining your rounds! There are some wonderful patterns out there with large parts, or sometimes even entirely, made of slip stitch. Here you will learn the basic slip stitch which is worked through both loops, plus you will learn to slip stitch in the front loop only or the back loop only. There are even more techniques, creating even more looks, but these three are a great way for you to get started!

Slip Stitch (sl st): Insert hook into next st, yarn over, pull through all loops on hook.

Here are several ways for you to learn the slip stitch:

This short video gives the basics of using a slip stitch to form a ring for the center of items worked in the round, for using a slip stitch to join a round, and for using a slip stitch to move the start of a round to a new location:
