The Seventh Birthday Retro Party (and some other stuff)

The girls turned 7 on Sunday. I have some snaps to share with you to show our festivities. Plus a little bit of yarnie stuff at the end of the post. 🙂

Lego-Star-WarsPin

I think this was the day before their birthday. Doug was so proud of them!

Breakfast-Seventh-BirthdayPin

For their birthday breakfast, banana pancakes with real maple syrup and fresh strawberries. Yummy!!

Kyla-Seventh-BirthdayPin

Here is Birthday Girl Kyla ready to party!

Vada-Seventh-BirthdayPin

And Birthday Girl Vada is all ready as well!

Ready-to-party-Seventh-BirthdayPin

Like I said, retro party. We decorated the backyard, put out a ring toss, various toys from the garage, and stick the carrot nose on Olaf. It was awesome!

Sidewalk-chalk-art-Seventh-BirthdayPin

We started the party with sidewalk chalk. We invited about 10 girls, 7 RSVPed yes, but only 4 showed (2 called ahead of time with car troubles ~ siblings, and 1 just didn’t show). We wanted a small party, but not quite that small. It’s one of the drawbacks of summer birthdays around here, a lot of people go down the shore for the weekends, or go away on long vacations.

Once everyone was here, the girls played stick the carrot nose on Olaf. Jessica won.

Present-time-Seventh-BirthdayPin

Present time!! Vada loved the little stuffed Tink. She opened it and yelled, “I wanted this forever!!” It was adorable. For the record, forever is 5 days. That’s when she told us she wanted a soft stuffed Tinkerbell, 5 days before her birthday. OK, she may have wanted it longer, but she didn’t say anything before then. They got lots of fun artsy craftsy gifts that they have been loving with the rainy days we have had lately!

Birthday-Cakes-7-years-oldPin

Doug planned the whole party. After my unschedule trip to the hospital, I have been very far behind in getting ready for the Knit and Crochet show and our vacation immediately following the show. So Doug was my hero and said he would take care of the whole party. Yes, he even made the cake/cupcakes. He made Kyla a chocolate rainbow unicorn cake. He found a horse cake mold at the craft store, and used one of those spiral lollipops for the horn. Vada got rainbow SpiderMan cupcakes. Really, if you look at the sides of the cupcakes, they are rainbow layered. I knew he was a keeper.

Post-party-concert-Seventh-BirthdayPin

As the party was winding down, the girls disappeared inside for a bit. They came back to give us a concert. Can you guess the song?

Yes, you can.

Really.

That’s right.

Let It Go.

The encore was Do You Want To Build a Snowman.

Kyla's-Shirt-Seventh-BirthdayPin

This was Kyla’s awesome shirt that made her need to run inside and change. You can see the image better on this doormat we may need to get for her as well. It would be perfect for outside her tent when we go camping!

Vada's-Gifts-Seventh-BirthdayPin

Vada helped clean up by carrying all her gifts at the same time.

Madison-Helps-Clean-Seventh-BirthdayPin

Madison helped clean up as well. I love this photo. It really fits the retro idea of the party.

They-have-each-grown-about-2-inches-Seventh-BirthdayPin

The girls each grew about 2 inches this past year.

It was a great year.

I constantly wonder how I ended up with such awesome little girls. They are so kind, loving, smart, hard working, and fun. They make Doug and I very proud.

Kim-Guzman-Crochet-ALongPin

Remember when I told you about Kim Guzman’s Crochet Along? Well, today was the last day of the CAL. Here is the picture of my finished scarf.

I have been in a frenzy getting ready for the Knit and Crochet show. Really, I will be ready. Really. I am very excited about seeing so many of the awesome people I met last year! There are several of the members of our little facebook group of crochet designers and bloggers who will be there: Michele (Mainly Crochet), Kim (Kimane Designs and much more), Andee (Mama’s Two Hands), Tamara (Moogly), and myself. I hope I didn’t leave anyone out! Of course, there will be a lot of other awesome people there as well, that is just the group from our little facebook gang. 🙂

This will actually be Tamara’s first show. I am so excited for her! We actually chatted on the phone for nearly 2 hours today because she had some questions about getting ready for the show. It really wasn’t nearly 2 hours of advice, most of it was just us chatting, because she’s fun to chat with! The funny thing is, we unknowingly signed up for all the same classes. This should  be fun.

If you are wondering about Lorene (Cre8tion Crochet), who was my show buddy last year and is one of my dear friends, she just had a healthy and handsome baby boy, so she is not able to make it to the show this time.

I will post all about it this year, just as I did last year:

We are the cool table
Now this is a good day
A bit about the crochet and knit show
Cool goodies from the show and catch up

Talk to you soon!
