What it’s really about

At this time of year, I try to remember what Christmas is really about to me. It’s not about what you get, it’s about helping. It’s about being kind.

Every year, I like to share my favorite Christmas story with all of you. I wrote this post a few years ago, and I like to reread it every year as a reminder of what Christmas is really about.

If you want to help as well, you can usually call your local police department and let them know you would like to make a donation to the local woman and children’s shelter, and could they please give you the contact number. They will not be allowed to give an address, as many of the residents of the shelter need to remain hidden, but they usually can give you a contact number, and the contact can usually set up a drop off or pick up. Just make sure you’re clear up front why you are calling, they tend to be very cautious about domestic violence, so if you aren’t clear why you’re calling, they may thing you’re a victim. The contact can often give you a general idea of how many residents they will have on Christmas, and you can donate some brand new, handmade items for each of them for Christmas gifts. I like to make scarves and hats in various sizes. I try to make more then they think they will need. You can ask the contact what they need as well.

How do you keep the kindness of Christmas in your life? I’d love to hear what you do.
