This sweet little tank is a great accessory for any little girl’s summer! It can be worn with jeans, a skirt, or anything in between. This pattern is only available in child small, I may one day go back and make it in more sizes, but that would most likely be a paid pattern. For now, this is the size I needed for a fun piece for one of my daughters for Easter, so this is the size you get for free. 🙂 I made it using some leftover Lion Brand Modern Baby yarn from another rainbow project I made. You can make yours in just one color, or however many make you happy!!

Size:
Child small: 18″ to 22″ chest

Yarn:
Lion Brand Modern Baby (50% acrylic, 50% nylon; 173 yards [158 meters]/75 grams) ~ 2 skeins (130 g) used

Hook:
US H/8 (5 mm)

Gauge:
16 sts x 10 rows in double crochet in 4″

Stitches and Skills used:
ch ~ chain
sl st ~ slip stitch
sc ~ single crochet
hdc ~ half double crochet
dc ~ double crochet
fsc ~ foundation single crochet

rnd ~ round

Getting Started:
If you would like to copy the colors as they are in the sample pictured, the color names and approximate amounts are: Pink 15g, Red 15g, Orange 20g, Yellow 23g, Chartreuse 18g, Green 18g, Turquoise 18g, Blue 15g, Purple 18g

The foundation (starting) round may seem a bit odd. You start off with a ch 4, then work some fsc, the reason for the extra chains before the fsc is that it is counting as the corner ch-2. There are also a few ch-2s added in between some of the fsc, because those are the other 3 ch-2 corners.

Pattern:
Rnd 1: Ch 4, fsc 20, ch 2, fsc 24, ch 2, fsc 20, ch 2, fsc 24, sl st to 2nd ch.
Rnd 2: Sl st into ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 3, dc) in ch-2 sp, dc in each of next 20 sts, (dc, ch 3, sc) in ch-2 sp, sc in each of next 24 sts, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp, sc in each of next 20 sts, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp, sc in each of next 24 sts, sl st to top of first sc.

Rnd 5: Sl st into ch-2 sp, (2 sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-3 sp, sc in each of next 26 sts, (sc, ch 2, 2 sc) in ch-3 sp, sc in each of next 31 sts, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp, sc in each of next 26 sts, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp, sc in each of next 31 sts, sl st to top of first sc, sl st in top of next sc.
Rnd 6: Sl st into ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 3, dc) in ch-2 sp, dc in each of next 28 sts, (dc, ch 3, sc) in ch-2 sp, sc in each of next 34 sts, (sc, ch 3, dc) in ch-2 sp, dc in each of next 28 sts, (dc, ch 3, sc) in ch-2 sp, sc in each of next 34 sts, sl st to top of first sc.

Chest top: This section is worked in rows. First several rows are worked off the back section of the yolk, than several rows are worked off the front section of the yolk. Lastly, one round is completed around the entire piece.

  2. HI Jessie, I was working on this pattern and found in Rnd 3 in the last section you don’t specify what stitch to do in the last 26 stitches and then again in Rnd 4 for the last 24 stitches. Thank you for sharing your pattern with us. I can’t wait to finish it.

    • In the bottom section? I just checked and it is all there. Maybe try again? I know that sometimes I miss parts when there is a long set of directions for a round, it’s possible that you just skipped a line or something.

          • Thank you Jessie, I will post a picture of my completed project on your facebook page. I made a few changes in my tank though in case you look close. I sl st’ed the sides up about 3 inches and put a picot stitch around the neck line, plus I made it a bit smaller as this is for my great niece who is 3 years old. I love the pattern though and will make it again for other family members.

  3. Hi i’m going to do this dress size 3T. I’m gonna use red heart super saver yarn. What hook size i have to use? I tried matching gauge with lower hook sizes. But still its not working out. Please help me!
