Divergent Necklace ~ Free Knit Pattern from Jessie At Home

Divergent Necklace Clover
Free Knit Pattern
Intermediate Skill Level
Designed by Jessie Rayot

Here is a great addition to your spring wardrobe, because spring is coming! I love playing with colors, shapes and textures in my knitting. The Divergent Necklace is the result of this. Short rows are used to add stockinette wedges into the garter stitch necklace base. Even if you have never used short rows before, you can make this piece by first watching the free Craftsy class I have linked to help you understand this technique.

Getting Started:
This pattern uses short rows. If you are not familiar with short rows, or just need a refresher, I find this free class from Craftsy very helpful.

Here is a summary of one way to do short rows:

To make a W&T on a purl row: slip 1 st to right needle, pass yarn from front to back, slip stitch back to left needle, turn and begin next row.
To make a W&T on a knit row: slip 1 st to right needle, pass yarn from back to front, slip stitch back to left needle, turn and begin next row.
When working back and picking up wraps: work to wrapped st, slip wrap off the stitch and onto the needle, knit both the st and the wrap together on a knit row, or purl both the st and the wrap together on a purl row.

Pattern:

With color A, cast on 180 sts

Row 1: Slip 1 knit wise, K 24, place marker, K to end, turn.

Row 2: K to marker, slip marker, change to color B (do not clip color A), K to end, turn.

Can you pls explain how this is a “Divergent” necklace? My daughter, who is a big fan of the books and film, said she couldn’t see the connection.

I have never seen that movie, or read the books (though I would like to!). It is named by the definition of the word, not by the movie or books.

I would like to knit your Divergent Necklace. Can you tell me where I can purchase the recommended 5/2 mercerized cotton yarn or an equivalent yarn ? Thank you

You can try one of the links at the bottom of the post, or you can get crochet thread at most craft stores. You should even be able to find something at a LYS.

        Hello Jessie,
Thanks for your reply. You mentioned LYS – what does it stand for ? Sorry I’m not familiar with this store

LYS means Local Yarn Store. They are usually not chain stores, and they usually carry the higher end yarns.
