Elaina's Noggin Cover ~ free knit pattern by Jessie At Home

Elaina’s Noggin Cover
Free Knit Pattern
Intermediate Skill Level
Designed by Jessie Rayot

This hat was made as a gift for the daughter of my dear friend, Jon. Jon posted a picture of a pink hat on Facebook and mentioned that Elaina would look adorable in it. I happened to agree, so I thought I would make one for her. It took me a while to decide how to do the earflaps and bottom stripe. I like those to be doubled for warmth. I finally decided to start with the cord at the bottom of the earflaps, and make both of them in the round. Then I made the first stripe, and added the ear flaps. Both the ear flaps and the bottom stripe are 2 layers thick, so Elaina’s adorable little head will be nice and warm. I decided this hat is so cute that her mom needed one in her favorite colors, so I wrote the pattern for kiddos and adults. PLUS: They glow in the dark!! Check out the notes section to see how.

Notes:
Some parts of this pattern may seem odd. Just trust the pattern and follow along, it will all work out!
The tassels in the samples are actually made of crochet chains to make them chunkier, but regular tassels will work as well.

For both of the hats seen in the photos here I used Kreinik Filaments as carry alongs. For the darker colors I used the metallic thread ~ it is actually more sparkly than it looks in the photos here. For the lighter colors I used the glow in the dark filaments.

To make i~cord: cast on 3 sts onto a double point needle, * do not turn, slide sts to left end of needle, K1, pull yarn tight, K2, repeat from * to desired length.
If you would like to replace the i~cord with a crochet chain, that would work as well.

I’m sorry, I’m not sure what you are saying here. If you think you found an error, you are going to have to be more specific. I don’t see two row 4s next to each other anywhere.

She meant to say the pattern, instead of saying “Fourth Stripe” and then “Fifth Stripe”, says “Fourth Stripe” twice. Saving this pattern to make for my granddaughter when I get caught up on my other projects. Thanks for sharing your patterns with us, Jessie.
