Stitchopedia Tutorial
Learn to crochet the little fans stitch in no time with a step by step video, a row by row written tutorial, and a crochet chart (sometimes called a crochet diagram).
Yarn used in this tutorial was provided by WeCrochet. All opinions are my own.
Little fans is a simple stitch pattern with a one row repeat making it great for beginners. It’s perfect for blankets because it’s quick and easy, and it looks lovely in one color or in a multiple colors. Make stripes or used color changing yarn for a quick baby blanket.
For this tutorial I’ve changed color every row. When I used this stitch in Section 11 of the Suzie’s Stiped Sampler Blanket CAL, I made stripes of different heights to show off how this stitch can change looks depending on color changes.

Little Fans Stitch Pattern Written Instructions with Photos
The Little Fans Stitch Pattern is worked over a multiple of 4 plus 1 stitches. For the video and chart in this tutorial I started with a base of 25 single crochet. The stitch pattern begins with row 2. I’ve also included a finishing row to end your swatch with a row of single crochet. The first and last rows of single crochet are simply to neaten up the top and bottom of your swatch if you want to keep it for future reference. I like to staple mine to an index card with the name of the pattern on it.
Row 1 (WS): FSC a multiple of 4+1.
-or-
Ch a multiple of 4+2, turn, sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across.
Row 2: Turn, (dch2, dc) in first st, [ch 1, skip 3, 3 dc in next st] across until 4 sts remain, ch 1, skip 3, dc in last st.
Row 3: Turn, (dch2, dc) in first st, dc in ch-1 sp, [ch 1, dc in next ch-1, dc over same ch-1 and into center skipped st below, dc in same ch-1] across to end, ch 1, dc in last st.
Repeat Row 3 to desired size.
Finishing Row (WS): Ch 1, turn, sc in first st, sc in next ch-1 sp, [sc in each of next 3 sts, sc in next ch-1 sp] across until 3 sts remain, sc in each of next 3 sts.
