Shooting Stars Cowl

Inspired by my Mushroom Crepe Cowl, the Shooting Stars Cowl will keep you warm in during those chilly days and nights. Slip stitches and cables mixed with knits and purls create a lovely texture that’s sure to please. So grab your Lion Brand Heartland and get knitting!

Size:
27″ around by 7.5″

Yarn:
Lion Brand Heartland, worsted weight: Olympic – Color A: 90g
Lion Brand Heartland, worsted weight: Mount Rainer – Color B: 75g

Hook/Needles:
US-8, 5.0mm

Gauge:
20 sts x 23 rows = 4” [10 cm] in stockinette

Other supplies:
yarn needle
1 stitch marker

Stitches and Abbreviations:
K – knit
P – purl
st(s) – stitch(es)

Getting Started:
When switching colors, do not clip the previous color, just let it hang in back where it is and pick it up again on the next round.
I used a long tail cast on for my cowl, I pulled out about 3 yards before starting my cast on, and ended up with about 1 foot of yarn left after my cast on.
In this pattern, slipped stitches are slipped purl wise.

Pattern:
CO 119 (or a larger multiple of 24 if you want to make the cowl longer) With Color A
Round 1: Join work into a circle, taking care not to twist, K all, place marker.
Round 2: P all.
Round 3: K all.
Round 4: P all.
Round 5: Switch to color B, *P1, K1, P1, K4, S1, K4, P1, K1, P1, K9, repeat from * to marker (last repeat will end one stitch short), remove marker, K1, replace marker.
Round 6: Switch to color A, *P1, K1, P1, K3, slip next st onto a cable needle, hold in front of work, K1, K1 from cable needle, K4, P1, K1, P1, K4, S1, K4, repeat from * to marker (last repeat will end one stitch short), remove marker, K1, replace marker.
Rounds 7~49 odd: Switch to color B, *P1, K1, P1, K3, slip next st onto a cable needle, hold in front of work, K1, S1 from cable needle, K4, P1, K1, P1, K3, slip next st onto a cable needle, hold in front of work, K1, K1 from cable needle, K4, repeat from * to marker (last repeat will end one stitch short), remove marker, K1, replace marker.
Rounds 8~48 even: Switch to color A, *P1, K1, P1, K3, slip next st onto a cable needle, hold in front of work, K1, K1 from cable needle, K4, P1, K1, P1, K3, slip next st onto a cable needle, hold in front of work, K1, S1 from cable needle, K4, repeat from * to marker (last repeat will end one stitch short), remove marker, K1, replace marker.
Round 50: Clip color B, leaving a tail to weave in, switch to color A, use the right needle to lift the stitch below the first st on the left needle onto the left needle, knit these 2 sts together, K8, slip next st onto a cable needle, hold in front of work, K1, K1 from cable needle, * K10, slip next st onto a cable needle, hold in front of work, K1, K1 from cable needle, repeat from * to end of round.
Round 51: P all.
Round 52: K all.
Round 53: P all.

Bind off knit wise. Weave in all ends. Block cowl.
