Every other month I receive my issue of Creative Home Arts magazine, full of fun crafty ideas. Lots o’ the ideas within come from the readers. Every issue they announce a contest with prizes ranging from $25 to $750. They also show the winners from 2 issues prior. With this issue there was a last call for a card making contest, and the announcement of a needle arts contest. You can use something you already made; it does not have to be made just for the contest. To enter you just send in photos of the craft, and a short description. So I decided to enter both. I’m sharing the entries here with you.

This is a Medieval Favour I made for my husband, who is a medieval re-enactor. It is a tradition for knights to wear a favour from their ladies, and I wanted my knight to have a very special one. I found three different medieval images that each meant something to us, and I graphed them each out into cross stitch patterns. I then overlaid the three patterns and started stitching. I used the smallest Aida cloth I could find, 23 squares per inch, so that the favour wouldn’t be too big, but the central rose would still have detail. It is stitched with DMC floss, and then hand stitched onto a canvas backing with a belt loop. My husband loves it and gets many compliments!

Fifteen of these invitations were created for my twin girl’s 2nd birthday party. Thirteen were sent out, and the last two were kept as keepsakes for the girls. They were constructed with scrapbook paper, photos, stamps, pens, ribbon, and various embellishments. The butterflies and the “2” slider were cut out with a Cricut machine. The decorative names were pieces I drew months earlier, and were then scanned into my computer and printed from there. The text was also printed out from my computer onto colored cardstock paper. These invitations took a lot of time and love to create. I am very thankful I made the extras for the girls.

So there you have it, my friends, wish me luck.

On another note, Doug’s computer annoys me to no end. I am going to do my best to keep up posting here, but the laptop was nearly tossed into the snow a few times just in the course of this post.
