We signed yesterday afternoon and got our keys! We then drove over to the house and found that the sellers had left the pink rose wreath on the door. Isn’t it pretty? While we are looking, don’t you love the floating door? I think it is Doug’s biggest gripe about the house. The front door will be moving eventually anyway, so we will deal with it until then.

Joan (the previous owner with her husband, Jim) gardened as a hobby. Did I luck out or what!?!

We went back to the apt. for dinner, then took another load of boxes to the house, then came back to put the girls to bed and have a nervous breakdown. My Grammy has been in the hospital since Friday. She has a parasitical infection (are those infections, viruses, diseases…I don’t know what you classify them as) from a tick bite. It seems like every time she starts to get better, she gets worst again. Each time the “worst” part isn’t quite as bad as the time before, but it is enough to panic us all. Grammy and Grampy have 11 children, most married, at least 23 grandchildren and at least 7 great grandchildren ~ I haven’t done a count lately. About half of all of those live within an hours drive of them. You can imagine that her hospital room is pretty much always full. Thankfully, she seems to be doing much better today, and the specialist says he is pretty happy with her recovery.

Back to the house. I got the children up this morning, and Vada said “I tired.” She stumbled out of her room, down the hall, through the living room, into my room, and into my bed. Maybe we should try to stick to their bedtime, even with the move.

Once everyone was up and dressed we made a quick stop at the grocery store and then we were off to the house. Today’s goal was to get the main section of the basement cleaned up so I can make it my sewing room ~ for the next 5 year, give or take. Eventually we will add a usable attic and my sewing room will be up there.

The basement has two parts, the main part is under most of the house, and then there is a back room which is under the kitchen. The back room and the kitchen were added on in the 50’s.

This is under the stairs. I started demo by taking down the doors. That way I have easier access to my “stuff.” Everything you see inside there we brought in.

This is one end of the back room. With the exception of the boxes, everything else was left there.

The other end of the back room, everything you see was left by the previous owners (except the child, we brought that.)

Back to under the stairs. Post demo. With the other child we brought.

Here’s my garage. I promised you a better picture. It needs some TLC. I’m about to show you picture inside. Now we told the previous owners they could leave anything they weren’t taking/selling/giving away, as long as it wasn’t trash. Everything in the garage was there when we moved in with the exception of the dress form. Doug bought that for me this past weekend, but it smells really bad, so it is airing out. Aside from the smell, I do love the dress form.

Back to the basement. Time to clean. Kyla is “swabbing the deck.” Arr…Me thinks she is a silly little pirate princess, matey!

dust-in-the-basementPin

There is like 3″ of dust, dirt, and grossness from the basement floor in there. Ick. After the sweeping came the mopping. Doug got home just as I started and took over for me. Upon sitting on the steps, I realized it was the first time I had sat down since 8am, aside from driving to the grocery store, and then to the house. My feet still hurt.

We got a few boxes unpacked, and Doug managed to get one more car (SUV) load of boxes in. I got the girls home and showered and into bed only half an hour late this evening, so tomorrow should be a little easier on them. I hope.

I did find this exerciser ball in the garage, so I gave it shower and let the girls play with it.

“Enough with the pictures, Mom this is serious play!”

“Yea, blanket!!”

The blankets make it feel more like home. We’re getting there.
