Kids’ Felt Cuties by Kim Layton is full of fun and creative projects to that kids can make with felt. The finished projects provide hours of play time as well. The felt creations are easy to make and all the patterns are included along with very clear and detailed instructions. This book is a great to have on hand for rainy days this summer!
The girls and I were so happy to review Kids’ Felt Cuties. We sat and looked through the book and oohed and ahhed over all the projects. It wasn’t easy to pick just one to do for the review, but eventually we decided on the masks – more on that in a bit.
The book starts out right away with the patterns. Lots of photos are included, as is a detailed supply list, cutting list, and very well-written and easy to follow instructions. After that are the patterns with notes as to how much they need to be enlarged, if any. Then there are some general instructions on things like supply info and embroidery stitches, again with big, friendly pictures.
All the projects are colorful and cheerful, which is why we had such a hard time deciding on just one to review. The girls eventually went with the masks, but they wanted to choose more fanciful colors.
We copied the patterns to the right size and cut them all out, then the girls started tracing them onto the felt. They were so excited to get started they didn’t even want to change out of their pajamas! (I agreed to let them do all the cutting out before they had to change)
Once everything was cut out, it was time to start putting it all together. We took it one step at a time and the girls had no problem. The only change we made was that we used white glue instead of hot glue, because the girls aren’t really comfortable with the hot glue gun yet. They enjoyed creating the masks and making up new and colorful versions of a fox and a deer.
Here they are with the finished masks. Those are some happy little critters. I think they are adorable!
